Persona 5 Scramble\u00a0<\/em>has been available in Japan for several months, leaving\u00a0fans to wonder when it would get released to the rest of the world. The game continues the story of the beloved Phantom Thieves with Joker as their leader. Thanks to a rogue leak<\/a>\u00a0initially, the Western release of the game was finally confirmed, however, brandishing the title of\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It’s clear that Atlus wasn’t quite ready to announce the upcoming\u00a0Persona 5\u00a0<\/em>sequel, tweeting out “communications have been intercepted by the Phantom Thieves,” which was followed by a short delay before\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>was officially announced. To clear up confusion, here’s what\u00a0Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans need to know about the new\u00a0Persona 5\u00a0<\/em>spinoff localization<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Many fans were anticipating the announcement of\u00a0Persona 5 Scramble\u00a0<\/em>coming to international audiences and were surprised to see\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>instead. They needn’t be worried, though, because\u00a0Strikers\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Scramble\u00a0<\/em>are the same game.\u00a0The name of\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>changed from\u00a0Scramble\u00a0<\/em>due to its localization and is based on\u00a0Scramble<\/em>‘s full name as it’s known in Japan:\u00a0Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers<\/em>. It was seemingly shortened for international audiences, but rest assured, this is the news that\u00a0international\u00a0Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans have been waiting for.<\/p>\n

Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>takes place 6 months after the events of\u00a0Persona<\/em>, but keep in mind, this doesn’t necessarily conclude the events of\u00a0Royal\u00a0<\/em>as canon<\/a>. Without giving any spoilers revealed from\u00a0Scramble<\/em>‘s Japan release back in February away, some fans believe it can be considered a follow-up to either game, meaning that Kasumi won’t appear in\u00a0Strikers<\/em>. But fortunately for those who thought of the underclassmen gymnast as best girl, there are multiple other new romance options that appear in\u00a0Strikers.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Some trailers of\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>have been previously uploaded and then promptly deleted, leading to some confusion over which consoles the game will be available on.\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>is releasing for PC<\/a>, PS4, and Switch. It looks like Atlus is continuing the trend of bringing its games to the PC following Persona 4 Golden<\/em>‘s success on Steam. Additionally, this is the first\u00a0Persona\u00a0<\/em>game to be released for the Switch following fan expectations that\u00a0Persona 5\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0Persona 5 Royal\u00a0<\/em>would come to the Switch at some point, though past\u00a0Persona\u00a0<\/em>spinoffs\u00a0were released for the 3DS.<\/p>\n

Now that\u00a0Strikers\u00a0<\/em>is confirmed to get a release for the Nintendo Switch, fans aren’t sure if this points to doubt that\u00a0Persona 5 <\/em>will ever see a Switch release, or if it means an announcement is yet to come, since\u00a0Strikers\u00a0<\/em>essentially functions as a direct sequel to the game. Earlier this year,\u00a0Catherine: Full Body\u00a0<\/em>was ported to the Switch and the upcoming\u00a0Shin Megami Tensei 5\u00a0<\/em>and remaster of\u00a0<\/a>Shin Megami Tensei 3<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>will also get released for the Switch in 2021.\u00a0But it’s looking more and more unlikely that\u00a0P5\u00a0<\/em>will ever come to Switch, despite the addition of\u00a0Joker to\u00a0Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As a direct sequel to\u00a0Persona 5<\/em>,\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>will look and feel largely the same as the original installment while innovating and changing some aspects of the game to feel more modernized, including the art style and cleaner positioning of the in-game HUD, but with the same overall cohesive design inspired by\u00a0Persona 5<\/em>. This also includes brand-new anime cutscenes.<\/p>\n

Also, the gameplay is pulled from the\u00a0Dynasty Warrior<\/em>\u00a0series<\/a>, so rather than using the same turn-based combat system, Joker and his allies will have real-time hack and slash combat instead. Elements like Persona skills and All-Out Attacks will still be there, however, and using these menus will simply pause battle to allow time for the player to strategize.<\/p>\n

One major difference between\u00a0Strikers\u00a0<\/em>and the original\u00a0Persona 5\u00a0<\/em>will be the lack of a confidant system. The befriending and increasing relationship levels with other characters is a big part of\u00a0Persona<\/em>‘s social simulator side, but instead,\u00a0Strikers\u00a0<\/em>will implement side-quests called Requests and the BAND system which is increased by interacting with party members, winning battles, and hitting milestones in the game.<\/p>\n

Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is set to release worldwide on February 23rd, 2021 for the PC, PS4, and Switch.<\/p>\n
