It has been six years since HBO concluded the vampire drama<\/a> show\u00a0True Blood<\/em><\/strong>. Based on\u00a0The Southern Vampire Mysteries<\/em>\u00a0novel series, the show was a drama about vampires set several years after they had made their presence known to the world at large.<\/p>\n

The show’s name is based on an in-universe product called “Tru Blood,” a synthetic blood substitute that allows vampires to survive without feeding on humans, thus allowing them to integrate into a world that once feared and persecuted them. It had strong reviews and a significant fanbase, which means it’s no surprise that HBO<\/a> is reportedly working to reboot the property with a new show.<\/p>\n

It has been reported by TVLine that\u00a0Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who created\u00a0Riverdale<\/em> and\u00a0The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina<\/em>, is attached as executive producer.\u00a0Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien are currently tapped to write the pilot. Meanwhile Alan Ball, who created and ran the original True Blood<\/em><\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0five seasons, is also on board. Despite reports of multiple people being involved already, HBO has not made any official announcement regarding the project, and there’s no guarantee that anything will come of it. Still, it’s a reassuring sign for fans of the original show who are looking forward to a return to the universe.<\/p>\n

There are likely quite a few fans who would be interested in such a reboot. The original show ran for\u00a0seven seasons, and produced over 80 episodes. In universe, the central conflict of the show follows whether vampires and humans can co-exist peacefully. Both the humans and vampires have significant factions that believe coexistence is possible, and another that believe\u00a0one or the other must be destroyed<\/a>. Over time, the show introduced other magical creatures like shapeshifters, witches, and the inevitable werewolves.<\/p>\n

As of now, it’s unclear whether this potential reboot is going to be a continuation of the original, a spin-off, or a complete reset of the universe’s continuity. Whatever the case, there will likely be at least some connection to the original version, if only as references or cameos from one of the original actors, even if they wind up playing a different role.\u00a0For now, potential audiences will have to wait for a more official announcement from HBO.<\/p>\n

A reboot of True Blood<\/strong><\/em> may be in development.<\/p>\n
