Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced\u00a0the <em>Batman<\/em> alumn will portray\u00a0Gorr the God Butcher\u00a0in director Taika Waititi&#8217;s <strong><em>Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Introduced in Marvel Comics&#8217;\u00a0<i>Thor: God of Thunder<\/i>\u00a0#2, Gorr was raised on a nameless planet by parents who taught him to revere the gods in order to ensure the safety of his family. However, every member of Gorr&#8217;s family perishes over the years, including a wife\u00a0and children of his own, causing him to lose all faith in the deities he&#8217;s been raised to worship. Exiled for expressing his belief that the gods do not exist, Gorr is proven wrong when\u00a0a chance encounter with two deities fighting in the desert results in him being\u00a0bonded with\u00a0All-Black the Necrosword, granting him the ability to set forth on a crusade to kill all gods.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/spine-surgeon-rates-injuries-batman-spider-man-doctor-strange\/\">Spine Surgeon Rates Injuries in Batman, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m pleased to confirm that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/take-look-insane-energy-behind-scenes-oscars\/\">Academy Award-winning\u00a0actor<\/a> Christian Bale is playing the villain, Gorr the God Butcher,&#8221; Feige announced during Marvel Studios&#8217; presentation\u00a0at Disney&#8217;s Investor Day. Bale will join a cast of returning <em>Thor<\/em> stars that includes Hemsworth in the titular role, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Production on <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/thor-love-and-thunder\/\"><em>Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em> <\/a>will begin in January 2021 in Australia with Taika Waititi returning to the director&#8217;s chair after having helmed the previous installment, <em>Thor: Ragnarok<\/em>. Waititi co-wrote the screenplay for the fourth\u00a0<em>Thor<\/em> film with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarvelStudios\/status\/1337200046849159170\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em> will be based on writer Jason Aaron&#8217;s <em>The Mighty Thor <\/em>storyline in which Jane Foster becomes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/thor-love-and-thunder-jane-foster-backstory-cancer\/\">Mighty Thor, Goddess of Thunder<\/a>. In the comic book story, Foster is diagnosed with cancer and is later able to wield Thor&#8217;s hammer. Though she is granted extraordinary abilities while in possession of the hammer, the process\u00a0temporarily cures her body of toxins, including the chemotherapy used to treat her, meaning each transformation could bring her closer to death.<\/p>\n<p>The next chapter of the <em>Thor<\/em> film series will also feature <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/thor-4-chris-pratt-star-lord-guardians-galaxy-confirmed\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an appearance by Chris Pratt as Star-Lord<\/a>. The possibility of a crossover between the<em> Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> and <em>Thor<\/em> films was hinted at by the end of <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em>, when the God of Thunder hitched a ride with the intergalactic team as he prepared to search the cosmos for a new purpose in life.<\/p>\n<p>It may be worth noting that\u00a0All-Black the Necrosword is the first symbiote in Marvel Comics lore, making it a member of the same species as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/spider-man-symbiote-suit-concept\/\">Spider-Man adversary <em>Venom<\/em><\/a>.
