The company’s stock multiplied several times over after the runaway success of Dark Souls<\/em>, finally allowing gamers to play a series of games that didn’t hold their hand at every step of the way and actively challenged them<\/a> throughout an experience that is equal parts stressful and enjoyable. However, when talking about the Souls<\/em> series, most people tend to talk about the Dark Souls<\/em> trilogy without even mentioning the predecessor that provided the building blocks of the series\u00a0\u2014 Demon’s Souls<\/em><\/a>. Thankfully, this is not the case anymore\u00a0\u2014 Bluepoint Games has done an excellent job of remastering the original Demon’s Souls<\/em> on the PS3 to allow a new generation of gamers to enjoy this classic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Whatever one might say about Bluepoint’s remaster, one thing that absolutely needs to be acknowledged is just how amazing the game really looks.<\/p>\n

There’s no other game right now that truly encapsulates the next-gen feel other than Demon’s Souls<\/em> right now, which looks more beautiful than anyone could’ve imagined in their wildest dreams.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>THE ORIGINAL IS BETTER: The Old Game Has The Familiar Souls Look<\/h2>\n

That being said, some people have criticized the Demon’s Souls<\/em> remake for losing the art aesthetic of the original in favor of a look that is way more realistic and less atmospheric.<\/p>\n

Combat animations in the remake have been amped up to quite an extent<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 landing a backstab or a parry has never felt as satisfying as it does in Demon’s Souls<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A great example of this would be the bare-knuckle parry, which punches the enemy several times in a truly visceral fashion. It goes without saying that Demon’s Souls<\/em> has made the act of going through the game bare-handed viable simply because of this amazing animation.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>THE ORIGINAL IS BETTER: The Combat Is Mechanically Identical<\/h2>\n

That being said, Bluepoint Games has still maintained the core aspects of the combat<\/a>, ensuring that there are no changes in the frames of the original from that of the remake.<\/p>\n

So, while the combat might look somewhat flashy, it’s still the same game with just more distracting animations. There’s not really any mechanical differences that would put the remake a peg over the original in any way.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>PLAY THE REMASTER: Casting Spells Feels Like A Powerful Action<\/h2>\n

Spellcasting is definitely quite entertaining across the series, but one has to admit that this action has never felt as powerful as it does in Demon’s Souls<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The particle effects present in this title have truly gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that each and every spell feels powerful, impactful, and just plain satisfying to use.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>THE ORIGINAL IS BETTER: There’s Not Really Any New Content In The Remaster<\/h2>\n

If the graphical upgrades aren’t really that much of a game-changer for a particular gamer, then these people will feel little to no difference between the original and the remake.<\/p>\n

After all, there’s not really any new content in the remake aside from a few pieces of equipment, and that isn’t really all that revolutionary that the remake becomes a must-buy.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>PLAY THE REMASTER: The NPCs Actually Move Their Mouths Now<\/h2>\n

While this might seem like a pretty minor change, one has to admit that most of the NPCs in the Soulsborne games felt completely lifeless due to a complete lack of any lip-syncing.<\/p>\n

While one might argue that this actually added to the mysterious nature of the game, the act of watching NPCs talk still feels like a definite upgrade that all future From Software games should definitely adopt.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>THE ORIGINAL IS BETTER: There Are No Unfair Practices In The Original Title<\/h2>\n

One of the biggest reasons why people are up-in-arms about the Demon’s Souls<\/em> remake is the greedy pre-order bonuses and DLC equipment<\/a> that serve as nothing more than bait for some people to spend even more money on the title.<\/p>\n

The worst part about this is that Demon’s Souls<\/em> has PvP as well, meaning that people who pre-ordered the game or paid for the DLC would have an unfair advantage over other players as well, which is just ridiculous.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>PLAY THE REMASTER: It’s A Fresh Coat Of Paint<\/h2>\n

The fact that Demon’s Souls<\/em> is the first-ever Souls<\/em> game is something that is quite palpable from the very first second that people boot up the old game. From Software and Hidetaka Miyazaki definitely experimented with a ton of the mechanics in the game, crafting an experience that is as enjoyable as it is confusing.<\/p>\n

It also leads to a game that isn’t as refined or smoothly-functioning as some of its contemporaries, making for an experience that can feel quite dated… that is, unless the player decides to try out the remake instead. The minor gameplay adjustments and the massive graphical overhaul is enough to make the game feel that much more modern and easy to get into.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>THE ORIGINAL IS BETTER: It’s The Same Game That Doesn’t Require A $500 Console<\/h2>\n

However, playing Demon’s Souls<\/em> is easier said than done. The launch of a new console generation implies that the system is going to be quite expensive and the games aren’t exactly going to be cheap either, given the fact that prices for games in the newest generation have been bumped up by $10 anyway.<\/p>\n

So, the idea of paying $570 to experience a title<\/a> that is just an old game with a fresh coat of paint may seem somewhat excessive, especially when the original title can be played for just a fraction of said cost.<\/p>\n
