The developer had a few things to say regarding the goal of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-callisto-protocol\/\">The Callisto Project<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0as well as some more details about the upcoming game in\u00a0an interview with IGN published yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/callisto-protocol-pubg-universe\/\">The Callisto Protocol Horror Game is Set in PUBG Universe<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Hot off the heals of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-callisto-protocol-announced-dead-space\/\"><em>The Callisto Project<\/em>&#8216;s reveal trailer<\/a>, Schofield told IGN the project began when he met with Krafton, the publisher behind\u00a0<em>Player Unknown&#8217;s Battlegrounds<\/em>, and offered up the idea for the game and forming a new studio. Once everything was agreed upon, development started with one goal in mind: to scare players.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tZxiiy777_o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>The Callisto Project<\/em> is being developed with the intent of being the scariest game on next-gen platforms, according to Schofield. Reflecting on <em>Dead Space<\/em>, he recognizes the game&#8217;s cult status, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dead-space-twitter-trending-why\/\"><em>Dead Space<\/em> being seen by many fans<\/a> as one of the scariest games\u00a0released during the PS3\/Xbox 360 generation. Striking Distance intends for\u00a0<em>The Callisto Project<\/em>\u00a0to be seen the same way, with\u00a0it taking advantage of the power of the latest gen hardware\u00a0by using\u00a0light and sound to help with the game&#8217;s immersion.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Striking Distance Studios intends to make use of haptic feedback in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/playstation-5-dualsense-controller-features\/\">PS5&#8217;s DualSense controller<\/a>. Schofield\u00a0also mentions the ability for players to hear the wind and other small details in an environment as one possible cool addition thanks to next-gen controllers.<\/p>\n<p>Since the release of <em>Dead Space 3<\/em> in 2013, horror games in space have been few and far between. With the genre going in all sorts of directions thanks to the rise of indie horror games, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/ill-never-forgive-konami-for-killing-silent-hills\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Silent Hill<\/em> series going dormant<\/a>, and the <em>Resident Evil<\/em> games taking a more action-oriented approach at the time, fans have been clamoring for a sequel to the <em>Dead Space<\/em> series.
