As part of an upcoming tournament livestream,\u00a0Pokemon Sword\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>and\u00a0Shield\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>players can obtain a special evolution item for Galarian Slowking that normally takes more effort to collect. For players without access to Sword<\/em><\/a> and Shield<\/em><\/a>‘s Expansion Pass DLC, this is one of the only ways to obtain the item.<\/p>\n

One of the best-received additions to\u00a0Pokemon Sword\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shield\u00a0<\/em>is the Galarian variants of older Pokemon. Although 2016’s\u00a0Pokemon Sun<\/em> and\u00a0Moon<\/em>\u00a0were\u00a0the first to\u00a0introduce regional forms for some of\u00a0Pokemon<\/em>‘s most recognizable monsters<\/a>, the latest games take things a step further. For example,\u00a0Sword<\/em> and\u00a0Shield<\/em> have some new evolutions that are exclusive to regional forms, like Obstagoon for the Galarian Zigzagoon line. Some regional variants also evolve using different methods than their original forms.<\/p>\n

The livestream of South Korea’s upcoming\u00a0<\/em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0Shield<\/em>\u00a0Crown\u00a0Tournament\u00a0will reveal a code that, when redeemed, provides players with a\u00a0Galarica Wreath. If a Galarian Slowpoke is traded while holding this item, it will evolve into Galarian Slowking. Normally, this item is time-consuming to obtain. Players need to collect 15\u00a0Galarica Twigs to exchange for a\u00a0Galarica Wreath. In contrast, the evolution item required for Slowpoke’s alternate evolution, Slowbro,<\/a>\u00a0can be\u00a0obtained for only eight Galarica Twigs.<\/p>\n

It’s important to note that the promotion will only be active for 24 hours, ending at 9:59 a.m. ET on December 20.\u00a0This is not the first time that international fans have had to act fast to benefit from a South Korean Pokemon<\/em>\u00a0promotion. Back in August, fans\u00a0could\u00a0redeem codes for an Amoonguss<\/a>\u00a0that was both Shiny and competitively optimized.<\/p>\n

Galarian Slowking is a worthwhile Pokemon for any Doubles team, given its\u00a0exclusive Ability Curious Medicine. When it is sent out onto the field, it resets its partner’s stats back to normal if they have been altered. However, this may not rank among the best Pokemon Abilities<\/a>, given that it resets\u00a0all stat changes, including boosted stats. This means that players will need to plan carefully before sending Galarian Slowking into battle.<\/p>\n

The high frequency of international distributions reflects\u00a0Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0Shield<\/em>‘s emphasis on making competitive play easier to access than ever. The new games have streamlined the process of optimizing Pokemon with the right stats and Abilities,\u00a0especially through the new Ability Patch item<\/a>. With the Ability Patch, any Pokemon with a Hidden Ability can gain access to\u00a0it. Thanks to the new distribution and items like the Ability Patch, players will soon be able to craft a Galarian Slowking primed for high-level play.<\/p>\n

Pokemon Sword<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Shield<\/em><\/strong> are available now for Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n
