A PlayStation Plus<\/strong> membership can more than pay for itself. Adding up the total value of PS Plus<\/a> for 2020 reveals that there’s over $700 in value here, though the subscription costs (at most) $9.99\/month or $119.88 for the year. Of course, that value is only so good if the games are quality as well.<\/p>\n

PS Plus subscribers aren’t expected to download and play every single game on the subscription in a year, but the more they play, the better bang for that buck. With that in mind, as the year dwindles down, it seems like a good time to take a look back at the best PS Plus<\/a> games of 2020.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, PS Plus will do a little extra and include a collection instead of a game. That means some months it still only offers “2” games, but it’s technically 3-4. Case in point: the BioShock Collection<\/em> was added in the past year, and it includes the original BioShock, BioShock 2<\/em>, and BioShock Infinite<\/em>. For fans of the franchise, this is perhaps the best way to experience the games on consoles. It came with new textures and support for higher resolution and framerates, and with a new BioShock<\/em> game also in development<\/a>, there’s really a lot of life still in the franchise.<\/p>\n

Bugsnax<\/em> is an interesting game to say the least. It somehow makes catching bugs feel like playing Pokemon<\/em> on a PlayStation, while also offering a unique, warm-hearted, and sometimes incredibly deep story. Notably, it may also be remembered for quite some time as the very first only-PS5 PS Plus game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fall Guys<\/em> wanted to be the next Rocket League<\/em> when it released day-and-date on PS Plus; arguably, it became something much bigger. A unique take on the battle royale genre, with players having to complete a myriad of puzzle and skill-based challenges instead of shooting one another, Fall Guys<\/em> have seen a massive surge of popularity. Fall Guys<\/em> season 3<\/a> is beginning soon, and the game is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. After all, it won Community Support at the Game Awards 2020, and it’s easy to see why: the game’s official Twitter account has a witty approach but still manages to deliver everything players need to know.<\/p>\n

Hollow Knight<\/em> is a beloved indie game<\/a> funded through Kickstarter. Players take on the role of the knight as he fights through a plague-infested kingdom, facing off against unique bosses and unique abilities, and Hollow Knight<\/em> has been received and sold well. For those who typically avoid indies, Hollow Knight<\/em> is a game that should be an exception, making its inclusion on PS Plus all the better. Fans should also know that a sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong<\/em>, is in development.<\/p>\n

A sequel being better than its predecessor is sometimes hard to accomplish, as many would agree that Shadow of War<\/em> is no Shadow of Mordor<\/em>, but it is still a great Middle-Earth game<\/a> in its own right. It still has a generally positive reception, if somewhat slightly mixed, and the improved nemesis system and gameplay went a long way.<\/p>\n

Rise of the Tomb Raider<\/em> follows Lara’s Croft new origin story established in 2013’s Tomb Raider<\/em>, with the heroine now adventuring into Siberia. For Lara Croft<\/a> fans, this was likely one of the highlights of the year.<\/p>\n

Bluepoint’s games tend to appear on PS Plus<\/a>, so it’s really no surprise that Shadow of the Colossus<\/em> made it appearance here this year. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, though, as Bluepoint’s remake on the tried-and-true classic received high praise for doing something remakes often find hard to do: balancing the nostalgia, feel, and gameplay of the original with modern advancements and new additions. Shadow of the Colossus<\/em> was a masterpiece in its time, and with this remake, Bluepoint made sure it would stay a masterpiece for quite some time.<\/p>\n

A couple years ago, and no one would have blinked twice about Star Wars Battlefront 2<\/em> being on PS Plus<\/a>. Indeed, it’s launch was rocky, but Star Wars Battlefront 2<\/em> is evidence that any game can be redeemed with the right support. Star Wars Battlefront 2<\/em> has come a long way since its microtransaction controversy, truly becoming the game it should have been on day one. It’s still understandable how folks may have been put off because of the aforementioned controversy, but it’s inclusion here gives fans a chance to try it again and see for themselves how the galaxy a far, far away has played out.<\/p>\n

January 2020’s PS Plus games<\/a>\u00a0were Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection<\/em> and Goat Simulator<\/em>, which is technically four games as the collection includes Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves,<\/em> and Drake’s Deception<\/em>. It was good timing too as the pandemic would follow in just a couple of months, and PlayStation fans who have never played had a full collection at their disposal. Of course, many PS4 owners had likely played the franchise at this point, but this was a good way to open the year for newcomers.<\/p>\n

To top of January’s free games, Uncharted 4<\/em> was also added a few months later in April. This meant the entire franchise was now playable on the service, and it really help show off Naughty Dog’s pedigree this year.<\/p>\n

Now, as 2020 comes to an end but fans know games like Destruction AllStars<\/em> are poised to be added to the service, it’s clear that PS Plus is going into 2021 with confidence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PS Plus<\/strong> subscribers get at least two free games every month.<\/p>\n
