A group of<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war\/\"><em> Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a> YouTubers have found that SBMM not only impacts the difficulty of matches, but may also affect connection quality.<\/p>\n<p>YouTubers Drift0r, JGOD, TheXclusiveAce, and S0ur came together to conduct a study on SBMM. While <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-fans-sbmm-black-ops-cold-war\/\">players have had theories about SBMM<\/a> in <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em>, nobody likely\u00a0expected that the balancing system would negatively impact one&#8217;s connection. However, the group of content creators\u00a0found that ping may be raised by nearly 50 percent if players demonstrate enough skill.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-season-1-battle-pass-trailer\/\">Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1 Battle Pass Trailer Shows New Guns and More<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This statistic highlighted in Drift0r\u2019s video may have players using <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-nadeshot-bypass-black-ops-cold-war-sbmm-reverse-boosting\/\">Nadeshot\u2019s strategy to avoid SBMM<\/a>, as the hit to connection quality is severe if their findings are accurate. The issue is caused by a matchmaking algorithm that no longer prioritizes connection, with other parameters now being viewed as more integral to the player experience. This questionable system was not seen in <em>Call of Duty<\/em>\u2019s prior balancing systems, and it sees players with higher scores per minute being potentially punished with laggier games.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n2kw4Zv1pto?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This discovery regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-pros-auto-sprint-issue\/\">top-tier <em>Call of Duty<\/em> players<\/a> lagging more often is not the only bad news found in their test, however, as it was discovered that the current SBMM system could place the highest skill players with a team full of low-skill teammates. With fewer highly skilled players available to match with, the system course corrects. Though the intention is to create balanced teams, the more common result is that the best <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em> players will be forced to carry weaker teams \u2014 and potentially lose more matches doing so.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from laggier matches and a more punishing experience for those who are good at the game, the YouTubers suggest that the current system is less of a skill-based matchmaking tool and more of a mechanic focused on player engagement. They say players will be placed into <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-shuts-down-modded-lobbies\/\"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em> lobbies<\/a> that cycle between easy and difficult matches. Depending on player performance in a match, the next game will be harder or easier, changing constantly to keep players hooked.<\/p>\n<p>While Treyarch confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/treyarch-call-of-duty-skill-based-matchmaking\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">all <em>Call of Duty<\/em>\u00a0games have SBMM<\/a>\u00a0some time ago, the studio also said that each system can be adjusted.
