At the beginning of the year, players across the globe had high hopes for the launch of both next-gen consoles. And despite a global pandemic, that excitement has remained strong with PlayStation 5 beating out PS4<\/a> for the biggest console launch in history.<\/p>\n

Now as the year draws to a close and the holiday season begins, many will be introduced to Sony’s next-gen console\u00a0as well as\u00a0PS Plus <\/strong>for the first time, so it’s important that next month’s free games make an impact and\u00a0reinforce\u00a0why PlayStation owners need the online service. As such, here’s our complete\u00a0PS Plus<\/a>\u00a0free games wish list for January 2021.<\/p>\n

On January 20, 2021, IO Interactive is due to release Hitman 3<\/em>, the final game in its World of Assassination trilogy of games that began with the Hitman (2016)<\/em> reboot. One of the most exciting features\u00a0in the game is the ability to import content from Hitman (2016)<\/em> and Hitman 2<\/em><\/a> into Hitman 3<\/em> including every mission, unlockable item, and costume. Essentially, for players that own the previous games, Hitman 3<\/em> is a one-stop-shop for the entire trilogy and the best way to experience it as all imported content will be upgraded to take advantage of the new hardware, systems, and features.<\/p>\n

As Hitman (2016)<\/em>\u00a0was already released on PS Plus, releasing Hitman 2<\/em>\u00a0on next month would give a lot of players instant access to all content and would be a great incentive to pick up the new game or renew their subscription. The reboot introduced a new way to experience the popular stealth franchise and Hitman 2<\/em> took everything that worked so well, unique\u00a0locations and the ability to complete missions in dozens of different ways, and refined the gameplay while also offering a proper single-player story.<\/p>\n

Hitman 2<\/em> is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.<\/p>\n

When Activision\u00a0announced the\u00a0Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy<\/em>, it took the world by surprise.\u00a0Something that had long\u00a0seemed impossible was finally happening, and players couldn’t help but speculate what this could mean for other fan-favorites like\u00a0Crash Team Racing<\/em> and the Spyro the Dragon<\/em> trilogy. Fast forward to\u00a0present day, not only has Activision has made both those dreams a reality, Vicarious Visions released a from-the-ground-up\u00a0remake of\u00a0Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 + 2,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Crash Bandicoot<\/em><\/a> 4: It’s About Time<\/em>\u00a0was released by developer Toys for Bob only months ago.<\/p>\n

Like\u00a0Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy<\/em>, Toys for Bob did an excellent job on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy<\/em>, a remake compilation of Spyro the Dragon<\/em><\/a>, Ripto’s Rage!<\/em>, and Year of the Dragon<\/em>. There’s a reason\u00a0Insomniac Games original trilogy were so beloved on PS One and a reason they were remade for a new generation of players to experience. With\u00a0PS5 now available worldwide, a lot of kids will be\u00a0getting brand new consoles on Christmas Day, and\u00a0Spyro Reignited Trilogy<\/em> would be the perfect family-friendly game to release on PS Plus alongside Astro’s Playroom<\/em>, Bugsnax<\/em>, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Spyro Reignited Trilogy<\/em> is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n

Supermassive Games made a name for itself in 2015 with the release of\u00a0Until Dawn<\/em>, an interactive horror adventure with a star-studded cast,\u00a0a focus on player choice that made it possible for every character\u00a0to live or die, and a decent amount of scares. Since then, Supermassive Games has moved on to make a series of smaller horror experiences such as Man of Medan<\/em> and Little Hope,<\/em> but before the Dark Pictures Anthology<\/a>, the team released on on-rails PSVR spinoff, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Released in October 2016 as a PSVR launch title,\u00a0Until Dawn: Rush of Blood<\/em> is more of a VR experience than an actual full-length game like Half-Life: Alyx<\/em> or Astro Bot Rescue Mission,<\/em> but it’s an enjoyable experience overall and a great addition to any owner’s library. In\u00a0Until Dawn: Rush of Blood,<\/em> players are aboard a horror-themed roller coaster and shoot down various objects, enemies, and most importantly, try not to throw off the headset in fear. With patents for PSVR2 surfacing online<\/a>, it’s a good time for Sony to start building up players’ libraries and selling them on the idea of ahead of time.<\/p>\n

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood<\/em> is available now on PSVR.<\/p>\n

On top of gaining access to the ongoing PS Plus Collection of games which includes some big names from the PlayStation such as God of War<\/em>, Ratchet & Clank<\/em>, Monster Hunter World<\/em>,\u00a0and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy<\/em>, it’s worth noting that Bugsnax<\/em> will be available for free on PS5 until January 4 alongside Just Cause 4<\/em>, Rocket Arena<\/em>, and Worms Rumble<\/em>. It’s unclear whether Sony has plans to add an additional PS5 bonus game next month given that Destruction Allstars<\/em> will be\u00a0free on PS Plus<\/a> for two months starting in February, so hopefully, players get something to keep themselves entertained through the holidays.<\/p>\n

PlayStation Plus\u00a0<\/strong>members receive two free games every month with their subscription.<\/p>\n
