Disney+ is set to play a huge role in the MCU\u2019s Phase Four with Marvel Studios<\/strong> now looking to bring at least 9 original productions to Disney\u2019s streaming platform over the next couple of years. Of course, after Marvel<\/a> took an involuntary hiatus from movie theaters for nearly two years, whatever ends up being released on streaming becomes even more important to the superhero genre as a whole.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s very little time to go until the first batch of MCU miniseries start making their way over to Disney+, with Wandavision<\/em> premiering on January 21, 2021, only to be followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em> on March 19 and Loki<\/em> in May<\/a>. All of these series got exciting new trailers recently when Disney presented their plans for the MCU.<\/p>\n

Yet there\u2019s probably one man who\u2019s just as thrilled as the most diehard fans: Kevin Feige. Feige has spearheaded the MCU ever since Iron Ma<\/em>n back in 2008, and in a recent interview with Emmy Magazine<\/em>,\u00a0he expressed just what streaming means for the MCU, calling it \u201c100 percent the future and where consumers want to watch things,\u201d a statement very much in tune with the industry’s current\u00a0paradigm shift.<\/p>\n

Feige specifically addressed what it\u2019s like for the MCU to tackle the series format, claiming simply that \u201cAn experience like Wandavision<\/em><\/a> is something you can\u2019t get in a movie.\u201d The Marvel producer also noted that while the movie format offers something entirely different, in the end, all those movies are also destined to wind up on a streaming platform. In this case, Disney’s.<\/p>\n

So far Marvel Studios and Feige have opted to dish out their first MCU streaming exclusives<\/a> as miniseries scheduled to last only six episodes, a move that looks to prioritize quantity over quality in their productions, especially considering the large budgets associated with the superhero genre. In a few months, Disney will be able to gauge just how successful these miniseries proved to be with critics and Disney+ subscribers.<\/p>\n

For that reason, the fact that Wandavision<\/em> and Loki<\/em> are two of the first<\/a> shows that will test drive this miniseries format is ideal, since, as Feige perfectly described it, those would appear to offer an MCU experience very different from what the blockbuster movies have delivered over the years.<\/p>\n
