The next generation of consoles is here and not only does that spell a new generation of games, but a new generation of fan made designs to truly make their new console a unique product. While there are some impressive decals that fans can buy right now<\/a>, seeing a fan put the time into a passionate project is just as welcome.<\/p>\n

One Reddit user, whattheefth, posted to the PlayStation subreddit, a series of pictures showing off their impressive PlayStation 2 themed PlayStation 5 in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand. While this may be a mock-up and not an actual reskinned PlayStation 5, this is an interesting look at the concepts fans can come up with just like the Mortal Kombat 11<\/em> PlayStation 5 fan design<\/a> that was shown off earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The attention to detail in this design is an impressive feat with subtle tweaks that manage to celebrate the PlayStation 2 while maintaining the unique design of the PlayStation 5<\/a>. The sleek, black contrasted with the colorful PlayStation logo look like something Sony would actually release, if even as a limited edition design. Even a mockup of the PlayStation 5’s beloved DualSense controller<\/a> makes an appearance complete with the vibrant face buttons of controllers from PlayStation past.<\/p>\n

Plenty of fan made console mockups focus on a single game like these cool CyberPunk2077 <\/em>and Horizon: Forbidden West<\/em> console designs<\/a>, but seeing a design celebrate the history of the console itself is a different affair that if real, could appeal to a larger audience than one that appeals to a specific fan base. In any case, the attention to detail and care is palpable in these mockups and it’s a bit saddening to realize that they are simply mockups and not available at a retail level.<\/p>\n

At a little over a month into its life, its heartwarming to see how much fans are already loving their PlayStation 5, which was Sony’s biggest console launch ever despite all the stock shortages<\/a>. One thing is clear, the fans that have been lucky enough to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 have a lot of praise for Sony’s newest console.<\/p>\n

The PlayStation 5 has a lot of games in store for the upcoming year<\/a> with titles like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart<\/em>, Resident Evil 8<\/em>, and Hogwarts Legacy<\/em> on the horizon, so there is tons of potential for more fan mockups in the future. In any case, it will be interesting to see what the fans come up with.<\/p>\n
