Since both games are more like enhanced ports, they\u2019re not truly new to 2020; consequently, they will be disregarded in favor of promoting two games that truly debuted in 2020. That said, the next best-rated games are <i><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/yakuza-like-a-dragon\/\">Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/a><\/i>,\u00a0which earned\u00a0a\u00a0score\u00a0of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/game\/xbox-one\/yakuza-like-a-dragon\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">89 on Xbox One<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/final-fantasy-7\/\"><i>Final<\/i> <i>Fantasy VII Remake<\/i><\/a>,\u00a0which obtained an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/game\/playstation-4\/final-fantasy-vii-remake\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">87 on PS4<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1 related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/yakuza-like-a-dragon-rpg-elements\/\">Yakuza: Like a Dragon: 5 RPG Elements that Work (&amp;amp; 5 That Don&#8217;t)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/i> is also not technically new, the remake is way different from the original, so much so that it is very much its own thing. It\u2019s hard to pick wrong when it comes to these two choices as both are fantastically RPGs. However, they both do some things better than the other, so let\u2019s find out if there is a clear victor or not for the best new RPG of 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">11 <\/span>Gameplay: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/1-FF7-Remake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Yakuza: Like a Dragon<\/em>\u00a0ditched\u00a0the brawler combat from the previous entries, a decision that was\u00a0the complete opposite of what <i>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/i>\u00a0opted for. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Square Enix&#8217;s game adds action gameplay to a typical turn-based structure, a mix that works\u00a0quite well. Both games have great combat mechanics, but <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-unanswered-questions-dlc\/\">the\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy<\/i> game<\/a> wins out by a small margin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Job System: Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2-Yakuza-Like-a-Dragon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When it comes to combat, Cloud, Tifa, and the rest all have distinct pros and cons that adhere to standard RPG Jobs or Classes. That said, as enjoyable as the action is in <em>Final Fantasy VII<\/em><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, <em>Yakuza: Like a Dragon<\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0Job System adds a lot more strategy to battles. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The game comes with over 20 Jobs, and while they are all pretty goofy, such as the chef and club host Jobs, they fit into this world just fine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Characters: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/3-FF7-Remake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This is another case where both games are almost neck and neck, as both titles feature great characters. However, nostalgia is the deciding factor here that gets\u00a0<i><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-scenes-change\/\">Final Fantasy<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>the win. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As charming as Ichiban and his colorful cast of rogues are in <i>Yakuza<\/i>, the updated characters from <i>Final Fantasy VII<\/i>\u00a0are too hard to resist. Seeing these iconic faces again will cause\u00a0all the feels to come rushing back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Side Quests: Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/4-Yakuza-Like-a-Dragon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The side quests in the original <i>Final Fantasy VII<\/i>\u00a0are legendary. However, since the remake was delegated to just Midgar, they lacked the punch they once did. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1 related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/longest-rpgs-2020-how-long-to-beat\/\">10 Longest RPGs Of 2020 (According To How Long To Beat)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Side quests\u00a0have always been one of the shining beacons in the <em>Yakuza\u00a0<\/em>games, and it is no different this time around. From fighting Pok\u00e9mon-esque mobsters to helping out a mascot get pirated merchandise off the streets, they are all memorable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Music: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/5-FF7-Remake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There really isn\u2019t one track that sticks out from this <i>Yakuza<\/i> game. The karaoke has some wild songs but that is about it. Conversely, the updated soundtrack in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-persona-5-remake-does-better-compared\/\">the\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy<\/i> remake<\/a> is just superb.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The entry already had one of the best scores in the series, and it only\u00a0got better with a live orchestra backing the classic tracks along with new beats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Photo Mode: Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/6-Yakuza-Like-a-Dragon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/i> launched in April and still has not received a Photo Mode, which is crazy considering\u00a0this feature is pretty much a standard for AAA games. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Not only does this <em>Yakuza<\/em> game have it, but it is also integrated phenomenally well into the game. While it\u2019s not the best Photo Mode out there, <em>Ghost of Tsushima<\/em> is a clear winner for this year, <em>Yakuza<\/em>&#8216;s version\u00a0is still pretty good. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Story: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/7-FF7-Remake-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When Square Enix announced that this game would not be a full remake and instead be released in parts, fans didn\u2019t know how to react. Why aren\u2019t they just doing a scene for scene remake? <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1 related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/yakuza-like-dragon-similar-games\/\">10 Games To Play If You Liked Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The answer is a bit of a spoiler but let\u2019s just say that certain things have been changed and\u00a0all fans of the franchise should consider trying out this crazy ride.\u00a0<i>Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/i> has its moments but the story does not reach the same heights as\u00a0<i>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Mini-Games: Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/8-Yakuza-Like-a-Dragon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Like the side quests, the original <i>Final Fantasy VII<\/i> had some great mini-games. Unfortunately, that just isn\u2019t the case <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-remake-jessie-memes-best\/\">with the remake<\/a>. This <em>Yakuza<\/em> game, on the other hand, has a crazy amount of mini-games, be it riding around in go-karts or becoming a billionaire cracker tycoon. They make up some of the best side\u00a0content in the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>The World: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/9-FF7-Remake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">From the graphics, style of the world, and variety in the environments, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-tifa-vs-aerith-best-girl\/\">this <i>Final Fantasy<\/i> remake<\/a> outdoes <em>Yakuza<\/em> on every turn. It was great to see a new city in <i>Yakuza: Like A Dragon<\/i> for a change, but\u00a0it is not a significant departure for the franchise and the scenery can get a touch repetitive.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/i> isn\u2019t always great as it does have some backgrounds that look like JPEGs, but overall it is the clear winner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Party Members: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/10-FF7-Remake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This might be obvious as <i>Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/i> won the character entry, but the game&#8217;s party members also outdo <em>Yakuza<\/em>\u2019s.\u00a0While the Jobs system in\u00a0Sega&#8217;s\u00a0game\u00a0is\u00a0great and offers variety, players aren\u2019t controlling the characters directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> A Chef has different moves compared to a Bodyguard but they control the same. On the other hand, going from Cloud to Tifa is dramatically different, which is also why the combat is so good <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-7-10-best-aerith-memes\/\">in the remake<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Verdict: Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/11-FF7-Remake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Honestly, either game could have won this contest. There are so many other comparisons that could be made to gain both games more points.
