Dragon Age 4<\/em><\/strong> likely isn\u2019t coming for a while yet, but there’s still plenty of ways to be involved with the franchise. For example, BioWare has recently\u00a0partnered with Dark Horse comics to announce Dragon Age: Dark Fortress<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new comic stars the returning character Fenris and takes place after the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition<\/em><\/a>. Story details are sparse, but the plot will involve Fenris teaming up with Inquisition agents to infiltrate the titular fortress.<\/p>\n

Fans last saw Fenris in Dragon Age: Blue Wraith,<\/em> where he and his team foiled a plot to create an army of Red Lyrium super soldiers, and it\u00a0ended on a pretty big cliffhanger, so Dark Fortress<\/em> will likely continue where that series left off. What waits inside and how the new comic fits into Dragon Age\u2019s<\/em> franchise-wide narrative<\/a> has yet to be seen, so fans will just have to be patient until the first issue drops at the end of March 2021.<\/p>\n

Dragon Age: Dark<\/em> Fortress<\/em> is the work of Nunzio DeFilippis, Fernando Heinz Furukawa, Michael Atiyeh, and Christina Weir. This is the same team that worked on Blue Wraith<\/em>, which is a strong indicator of what to expect from the new series, and each issue will feature cover art designed by Sachin Teng, another familiar name to Blue Wraith<\/em> fans.<\/p>\n

This isn’t Fenris’ first rodeo in the comics, but he’s only played the one\u00a0integral role in Dragon Age 2<\/em><\/a>, not appearing in any other video game. While not unanimously beloved within the fandom, he nonetheless has a passionate following in the Dragon Age<\/em> community, and it is not surprising that such a popular character would keep finding his way back into the series.<\/p>\n

And fans may want to read closely, as BioWare has made of habit of using other media to foreshadow events in the Dragon Age<\/em> games. For example, the novel Dragon Age: The Calling<\/em> introduced important characters and concepts that appeared in the Dragon Age: Origin\u2019s<\/em> Awakening<\/em> expansion. The books Asunder<\/em> and The Masked Empire<\/em> played a similar role for Dragon Age: Inquisition<\/em>. With Dragon Age 4<\/em>, or whatever BioWare ends up calling it<\/a>, taking place in the Tevinter Imperium, it wouldn\u2019t be surprising if players had to confront the fallout of whatever Fenris gets up to in Dark Fortress<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This seems to bode well for anyone hoping to see Fenris return in Dragon Age 4<\/em>. If this comes true, however, he will likely be relegated to a cameo. After all, Fenris is dead in many people\u2019s playthroughs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The first issue of Dragon Age: Dark Fortress <\/strong><\/em>releases on March 31, 2021.<\/p>\n
