As well as\u00a0releasing many fantastic new IP’s, EA has been a dominant force in video game tie-ins to popular movie franchises and sports. These include their many Star Wars<\/em> and Harry Potter<\/em> games<\/a>, along with the\u00a0FIFA<\/em> and Madden<\/em>\u00a0franchises. In recent years, EA has become a symbol of what many gamers think is wrong with the gaming industry; through their yearly sports releases that consistently lack significant improvements, to their heavy focus on microtransactions that led to the infamous\u00a0Star Wars Battlefront II\u00a0<\/em>controversy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The FIFA<\/em> series was a pioneer in the rise of modern microtransactions,\u00a0with its Ultimate Team mode that was the leading contributor to\u00a0EA’s\u00a0near $1 Billion microtransaction earnings in the final quarter of 2019<\/a>. The success of\u00a0FIFA<\/em>‘s Ultimate Team<\/a> has led EA to focus on creating online multiplayer-centric games in recent years.<\/p>\n

This direction has disappointed many people, as the company has released some of gaming’s best single-player experiences. This list pays homage to those titles, which often had multiplayer modes, but still maintained fantastic single-player campaigns.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (91)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Before the\u00a0Call of Duty\u00a0<\/em>franchise debuted in 2003,\u00a0the\u00a0Medal of Honor\u00a0<\/em>series dominated the historical FPS market.<\/p>\n

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault\u00a0<\/em>puts players in the shoes of a United States Army Ranger and tasks them with completing numerous objective-based missions, including storming Omaha Beach on D-Day. The game was\u00a0rewarded for its efforts with Computer Gaming World’s Action Game of the Year award<\/a>, beating titles like\u00a0Grand Theft Auto III\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Hitman 2.<\/em><\/p>\n

9 <\/span>SSX Tricky (92)<\/h2>\n

The second entry in the critically acclaimed\u00a0SSX\u00a0<\/em>series,\u00a0SSX Tricky\u00a0<\/em>was published by EA Sports Big, a label of EA that published extreme sports titles like\u00a0FIFA Street\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0NBA Street Showdown.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The game added Uber moves to the series, which rewarded players who filled their boost meter to the max with the chance to do exaggerated tricks. If the player successfully landed six Uber moves, they’d be rewarded with an infinite boost for the rest of the stage.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri (92)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Released in 1999,\u00a0Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri<\/em>\u00a0was considered to be a spiritual sequel to the\u00a0Civilization\u00a0<\/em>series, which\u00a0was two installments deep at the time.<\/p>\n

Released in 1999,\u00a0Medal of Honor\u00a0<\/em>revolutionized the FPS genre<\/a> by centering its gameplay around completing objectives, rather than simply shooting everyone in sight. Moreover, the game set a new standard for\u00a0storytelling in the genre, with its narrative that was created by Stephen Spielberg.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Sid Meier’s Gettysburg! (92)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the name suggests, Sid Meier’s Gettysburg!\u00a0<\/em>takes players to the American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, and gives them the choice of controlling either the Union or Confederate\u00a0units.<\/p>\n

Much like\u00a0Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri<\/em>,\u00a0Gettysburg!\u00a0<\/em>enjoyed its fair share of awards, including\u00a0Best Strategy Computer Game of 1997 from the Origins Awards<\/a> and Best Wargame from GameSpot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>SSX (93)<\/h2>\n

EA Canada and EA Sports Big joined forced in 2000 to create one of the best extreme sports games since\u00a0<\/a>Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

At a time when licensed sports games were booming,\u00a0EA opted against using real professional snowboarders for\u00a0SSX<\/em> and instead offered a selection of charismatic characters that were bursting with personality and\u00a0perfectly fit\u00a0the over-the-top SSX\u00a0<\/em>gameplay.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Mass Effect 3 (93)<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Last of Us Part II\u00a0<\/em>of its year<\/a>,\u00a0Mass Effect 3\u00a0<\/em>was a surprising source of controversy for its opinion-dividing story\u00a0that some players said had ruined the beloved series for them. The\u00a0criticism clearly affected BioWare and EA, as multiple new endings were added to the game after its release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s a shame that the perception of\u00a0Mass Effect 3\u00a0<\/em>is so negative today, as it finally perfected the series’ combat mechanics, and would almost certainly have been regarded as the best Mass Effect\u00a0<\/em>game\u00a0if its ending was on par with\u00a0Mass Effect 2<\/em>‘s Suicide Mission.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>SSX 3 (93)<\/h2>\n

The third and final\u00a0SSX\u00a0<\/em>game to appear on this list,\u00a0SSX 3\u00a0<\/em>improved upon its predecessors by\u00a0putting the game’s\u00a0courses in a free-roamable open world.<\/p>\n

The newly implemented open-world was likely one of EA’s motivations behind\u00a0investing in the game’s visual design; with renowned designers like the Oscar-nominated\u00a0Henry LaBounta joining the art direction team.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Burnout 3: Takedown (94)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

For some, the extreme racer\u00a0Burnout 3: Takedown\u00a0<\/em>may seem like a\u00a0dubious inclusion on this list, as they will have spent most of their time with the game’s multiplayer mode.\u00a0However, the game earns its spot through its\u00a0Burnout 3 World Tour campaign, which is one of the\u00a0most enjoyable single-player campaigns in the racing genre’s history.<\/p>\n

Like its predecessors,\u00a0Burnout 3\u00a0<\/em>cared little about realism and instead offered over-the-top arcade fun.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Mass Effect 2 (96)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

EA’s\u00a0most critically acclaimed series peaked with its second entry,\u00a0Mass Effect 2.\u00a0<\/em>The game picked up where the first game left off with its\u00a0excellent, immersive\u00a0storytelling that added significant weight to each of the player’s interactions.<\/p>\n

Although at its surface\u00a0Mass Effect 2\u00a0<\/em>is a sci-fi shooter, the game truly shines in its character development and personal interactions whose importance didn’t become clear until the shocking final mission.<\/p>\n

Fans are hopeful that Bioware and EA will bounce back from the disappointing\u00a0Andromeda\u00a0<\/em>with\u00a0the upcoming\u00a0Mass Effect 5,\u00a0<\/em>though they would have to produce something special for it to come close to the modern classic\u00a0<\/a>Mass Effect 2.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n
