For games these days, it is not enough to simply be able to pet the dog<\/a>. The long-awaited addition of animals to Rare\u2019s swashbuckling Sea of Thieves<\/em><\/a> dropped in 2019. But fans have only been able to fully vet the different pets after about a year and some change. The final verdict:\u00a0sailing the high seas with a loyal pet dancing to sea shanties is always enjoyable.<\/p>\n

With a dozen species and dozens of skins for them, players might feel overwhelmed. The pets also cost a specific amount of \u201cancient coins\u201d that usually adds up to $4.99. Players can also purchase unique outfits for their companions, too. So which pets in Sea of Thieves<\/em> are worth the microtransactions?<\/p>\n

12 <\/span>Marmosets<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

This monkey pet is regarded by many fans as being the cutest of them all. Like the other pets, they can wear different outfits that usually cost 249 ancient coins. Unfortunately, one of the coolest skins, the Skeleton Marmoset, was a limited Collector\u2019s Pet variant. In a game whose community has been plagued with toxicity<\/a>, bringing back a limited-time pet skin could go a long way in winning back some goodwill.<\/p>\n

11 <\/span>Macaws<\/h2>\n

A Macaw is the stereotypical, but logical choice for a pirate\u2019s companion animal. In real life, they can learn different commands, repeat phrases (however lurid or crass), and bring an added flourish of color to any outfit.\u00a0For Sea of Thieves<\/em> players, the Macaw wasn\u2019t a top choice.<\/p>\n

However, as all pets dance when players play instruments, the Parrot family might be the best option for this emote. Perhaps the recently announced pirate RPG\u00a0King of Seas<\/a><\/em> will also feature parrot pirate pets.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Cockatoos<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As with the monkey pets, Cockatoos sound and act just like the other pets in the species. They come in more flamboyant color combinations and all feature a prominent crest. Pair them with the Sovereign outfit to help them appear as royal and important as they probably assume that they are.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Barbarys<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Barbary monkey pet has naturally auburn fur, but sound like other monkey pets. Players can also opt for the Silver Mane Barbary which bears a striking resemblance to another popular monkey from a certain beloved animated film about lions. It also bears mentioning that, while it doesn’t feature monkey pets, games from\u00a0the\u00a0Tales of Monkey Island<\/em>\u00a0series<\/a>\u00a0are available again. Anyone who’s into\u00a0Sea of Thieves<\/em>\u00a0might also enjoy the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Wildcats<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

What team? The sitting there, probably judging you while flicking their tails around Wildcats. Players have agreed that cats are probably the cutest. They will stand up and meow at players when viewed through a spyglass.<\/p>\n

But other players have said they are the most annoying during combat. In order to get that pirate head in the game, however, cats might be the best option.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Alsatians<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Many Sea of Thieves<\/em> fans desperately wanted Rare to add dogs<\/a> in the game as pets. So the studio added three species to choose from starting with the Alsatian. Along with adding dogs in the September 2020 update, the production studio also moved to help raise funds for cancer research<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alsatians\u00a0kind of look like German Shepherds, but stockier and with different coloration. But if someone wants a Good Boi\u2122\ufe0f to always be by their side, the Alsatian is the pet to choose.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Maus<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

That is the plural of “Mau” and not a play on the word “mouse” for the breed name. These cats\u00a0are a lithe and nimble breed. They resemble Balinese or Javanese cats from the real world with curious ears and long faces. These cats also look ridiculous in the Pirate Legend outfit and by ridiculous, most players mean dashing (probably).<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Whippets<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

This dog breed features a lizard-like face with droopy ears and a frenzied disposition. Players can capture all of their wildest small-dog-wearing-embarrassing-outfits dreams. Fans recommended the Ghost outfit for maximum awkwardness.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Capuchin<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There are three different breeds of each species of pet in\u00a0Sea of Thieves<\/em>. The\u00a0most common of them is the Capuchin monkey,\u00a0 but that doesn’t make it less cool. Though not as cute as the Marmoset, this little guy\u2019s face belies his mischievous personality. But don’t worry: these little dudes can’t\u00a0vomit on people mid-stream<\/a>\u00a0like the one from the Rare stream did when the game launched.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Parakeets<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Parakeets are the smaller, cuter version of Macaws. They love to preen and look adorable in the Rose outfit while looking embarrassingly adorable in the Banana outfit. Players can opt for a classic green, red, and yellow color or go for a louder orange version.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Ragamuffins<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In a simultaneously heartbreaking and day-making turn,\u00a0players created in-game pets<\/a>\u00a0to honor real-life ones that were no longer around. The Ragamuffin captured one such former pet and their somewhat grumpy disposition. Though the colorations don\u2019t make a huge difference, the Kraken outfit just seems to suit this pet breed.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Inus<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The stubborn, but irresistibly quirky\u00a0Shiba Inu breed found its way into Sea of Thieves<\/em>. Players can choose from five coloring options and any of the outfits available for cats. More likely than dressing up this dog, however, is a player stuffing them into a cannon and firing them out of it. After all, no Shiba in the real world would allow such a dishonorable display of vulgarity.<\/p>\n
