What was Nintendo’s<\/a><\/em> smallest console? It’s not the Gameboy Micro<\/em>, it’s the Pokemon Mini<\/em>! Released in 2001, the Pokemon Mini came in three colors: Wooper Blue, Chikorita Green, and Smoochum Purple.<\/p>\n

Fans may recognize the console from the game Pokemon Channel<\/em> where a virtual version of it was available for playing mini-games<\/a>. This console had far more solid games than most give it credit for and those that love Pokemon don’t want to miss out on the best of them.<\/p>\n

11 <\/span>Homebrew Titles<\/h2>\n

It would be unfair to not mention the vibrant homebrew community<\/a> for the Pokemon Mini! There are over eighteen fully completed titles made by independent developers for players to try and they cover a wide variety of genres. Anyone looking to see what could have been done by game makers that aren’t called Nintendo<\/em> should check these out.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Pichu Bros. Mini<\/h2>\n

The Pichu Bros weren’t just featured in a short before Entei: Spell of the Unown<\/em><\/a>, they got their own game! Sort of. Pichu Bros. Mini only has six game modes compared to its prequel but each game is still fun. However, this game was never released outside of Japan, making it difficult for players to find and get a hold of.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Pokemon Party Mini<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The pack-in game with the console, Pokemon Party Mini contained six separate minigames as well as a special game mode and a Celebi Clock. Players can do everything from racing against Rattatas and Eevees to boxing with a Hitmonchan. The games are fun little jaunts meant to make players interested in picking up other games on the console.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Pokemon Race Mini<\/h2>\n

3… 2… 1… GO! Pokemon Race Mini has players using Pikachu to race against various competitors. Each level has various platforming sections and hidden routes to provide shortcuts for the player. Players also carefully use a boost feature to make sure they stay in the lead.<\/p>\n

The game is a predecessor to Pokemon Dash<\/em><\/a> which was released many years later. The races can be really close and players can grind to try and beat their previous high scores.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Pokemon Puzzle Collection Vol. 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

No, it’s not Pokemon Puzzle League<\/a>. The second puzzle collection on the Pokemon Mini was a bit weaker than the first. It reused a few concepts and had less available puzzles for players to figure out. Still, with 96 puzzles available,. it should leave players working their brains<\/a> for a good while.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Pokemon Puzzle Collection<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The original Pokemon Puzzle Collection<\/em> on the console is a joy to play with\u00a080\u00a0puzzles to solve<\/a>. Players have to\u00a0complete each puzzle to complete a MiniDex in the game. Players can solve Motion Puzzles, do a Rescue Mission, get through Shadow Puzzles, and eventually unlock a special mode called Power On.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Pokemon Zany Cards<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Pokemon and card games go together perfectly, just look at the Pokemon TCG<\/a>. Pokemon Zany Cards contains four game modes for players to explore with various card games. Players can play Four Kings, Special Seven, Wild Match, and even Card Duel through infrared multiplayer. It’s the most text heavy game on the console but still is quite a bit of fun to play.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Pokemon Breeder Mini<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Fans who have always wanted a Pokemon version of Tamagotchi <\/a>are in luck! Pokemon Breeder Mini has players taking care of a Torchic, Treeko, or Mudkip. Players much first hatch the Pokemon from an egg and then take care of it.<\/p>\n

Players must raise each Pokemon’s love, strength, intellect, and beauty skills to prepare the Pokemon to be taken by a new trainer. When three skills are maxed out, the game ends, and players can start raising their next baby.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Pokemon Pinball Mini<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Pokemon Pinball<\/em> was one of the best games on the Gameboy Color<\/a> and its sequel was a best seller on the Gameboy Advance<\/em>. Most fans of\u00a0the franchise never realized a third Pokemon pinball game even existed\u00a0and have missed out on this gem. Players use Diglett, Clefairy, Wobbuffet, Poliwag, and of course Pikachu to clear through levels.<\/p>\n

The game has a quest mode with over 70 levels to clear and the game has 90 levels overall. Throw in Time Attack and Score Attack and it’s likely the largest game on the console.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Togepi’s Great Adventure<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Remember Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble<\/em><\/a>? This game has players controlling Togepi as they roll through a tower. Players must avoid traps as they navigate tight spaces. The game is surprisingly long, lasting more than five hours for most players. This game is the jumbo shrimp of an already tiny console.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Pokemon Tetris<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Pokemon<\/em> and Tetris<\/a><\/em> combined? How has this not been remasted<\/a>? Players enjoy the typical mechanics from the titular puzzle game with a twist: each Tetris completed catches a Pokemon. Completing the full PokeDex in the game is a marvelous challenge that adds just the right amount of extra fun to lining up blocks.<\/p>\n
