Chris Pine, who just came off a substantial supporting role in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/wonder-woman-1984\/\"><em>Wonder Woman 1984<\/em><\/a>, has apparently spoken with director Patty Jenkins about her upcoming\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> film,\u00a0<strong><em>Rogue Squadron<\/em><\/strong>, and claims he&#8217;s &#8220;ecstatic&#8221; about the story she&#8217;s looking to tell.<\/p>\n<p>During a recent interview, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dungeons-and-dragons-chris-pine\/\">Pine spoke about his experience<\/a> on the set of\u00a0<em>Wonder Woman 1984<\/em> as well as a certain standout scene where his improvisation skills captured the hearts of audiences. But an unexpected question regarding Jenkins&#8217; newly announced entry into the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/star-wars\/\"><em>Star Wars<\/em><\/a> universe elicited a surprising answer. The interviewer seemed to be attempting to prompt an admission from Pine that he wanted to be in the film, but while he didn&#8217;t exactly take the bait, he did reveal that he&#8217;d spoken to Jenkins about the film.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-rogue-squadron-movie-video-game-adaptation\/\">Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Movie Is Not a Video Game Adaptation<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the short interview with <em>Collider<\/em>, interviewer\u00a0Steve Weintraub brought up how Pine has already had some experience with multiple cinematic universes (as well as the space setting), then inquired on whether the actor had attempted to leverage that legacy to secure a spot in Jenkins&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/rogue-squadron\/\"><em>Rogue Squadron<\/em><\/a>. &#8220;I had spoken to her about, not my involvement, but the story,&#8221; Pine answered, &#8220;it sounds really, really great.&#8221;\u00a0His praise\u00a0for Jenkins and her story also seems to suggest that maybe there are some new ideas in play, with\u00a0a further comment stating &#8220;I&#8217;m ecstatic for her, I&#8217;m excited for what she&#8217;s about to embark on. If there&#8217;s anyone that can reimagine and breathe fresh new life into it, it&#8217;s her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LVZvCQQ1kAc\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;width:1280;height:720;\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The slight tangent from the question&#8217;s original point can easily be forgiven since, in the process, Pine suggested that he now knows what\u00a0<em>Rogue Squadron<\/em> will be about. Of course, anyone could make a similar claim and then follow it with &#8220;it will be about starfighter pilots doing starfighter things,&#8221; but it seems pretty clear that Jenkins shared at least part of the film&#8217;s actual story with him. While it appears likely that Pine won&#8217;t be involved with the film, some fans may still find his praise for the story to be reassuring.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-rogue-squadron-wonder-woman-patty-jenkins\/\">Jenkins already has a story in mind for\u00a0<em>Rogue Squadron<\/em><\/a> isn&#8217;t entirely surprising. In the reveal for the newly announced film, she spoke fondly about her long-time goal to create &#8220;the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time,&#8221; so it&#8217;s very likely that she has held on to a rough idea for some time and has only been waiting for the opportunity to use it. Pine&#8217;s &#8220;breathe fresh new life into it&#8221; line also brings up the idea that maybe this will be more than just a standard fighter pilot movie set in the\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> universe. If Jenkins wants to take some risks, the franchise could always use a good shake-up. Plus, even without Pine, there are surely plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-wars-rogue-squadron-cast-patty-jenkins\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">actors and actresses who could really contribute to\u00a0<em>Rogue Squadron<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, some aspects of the fandom aren&#8217;t particularly favorable to change and evolution.
