With 2020 coming to a close, the video game industry has trekked along with AAA\u00a0and indie game\u00a0releases to\u00a0varying levels of success.\u00a0This includes the breakout hit\u00a0Among Us<\/em> or the anticipated release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em> coinciding with the next-generation consoles.<\/p>\n

A recent blog post from the PlayStation<\/a> Blog reveals some of the PlayStation developers’ favorite video games released in 2020. The listed video games include familiar titles such as Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout<\/em>, Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em>, Ghost of Tsushima<\/em>, Demon’s Souls<\/em>, and more. The PlayStation developers hail from various video game studios, some that players will recognize.<\/p>\n

The first pick\u00a0is\u00a0Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em><\/a> by Ryan Payton, the director from\u00a0Camouflaj, and Ramone Russell, the Product Development Communication and Brand Strategist for San Diego Studios. Payton and Russell selected Warzone<\/em> because of how it seamlessly blended Call of Duty’s<\/em> gameplay mechanics with the battle royale genre. It also provided a nice escapism\u00a0for them\u00a0and their respective\u00a0co-workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Next is Demon’s Souls<\/em>,\u00a0chosen by Jason Connell who worked on Ghost of Tsushima<\/em>, Ned Waterhouse from\u00a0Sackboy: A Big Adventure<\/em>, and Henri Markus working on Returnal<\/em>. Connell fell in love\u00a0playing the\u00a0Demon’s Souls<\/em>\u00a0remake<\/a> for the first time, Waterhouse had a blast with the challenging difficulty, and Markus enjoyed playing\u00a0the\u00a0remake of one\u00a0of his favorite games again.<\/p>\n

The third game is Doom Eternal,<\/em>\u00a0selected by Louis Studdert, producer at Toys for Bob that\u00a0developed Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time<\/em><\/a>. Studdert commented that he loved the previous Doom<\/em> game describing\u00a0it as\u00a0a “breath of fresh air” with the high-octane combat. He enjoyed how the sequel expanded on the core gameplay even further; specifically, how it forces players to think as they move and gun enemies down.<\/p>\n

Studdert congratulates the team at id Software for their achievement with Doom Eternal<\/em>.\u00a0After that is\u00a0Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout<\/a>,<\/em> which was chosen by\u00a0directors Hideaki Itsuno from Capcom and Naoki Hamaguchi from Square Enix. Both directors were drawn into\u00a0the game’s wild and fun gameplay, with Itsuno noting the balance of luck, action, and strategy as a fun combination with the focus on interacting with other players.<\/p>\n

Ghost of Tsushima<\/em>\u00a0was chosen by 5 people who worked on major game releases, including God of War<\/em>, Godfall<\/em>, Yakuza: Like a Dragon<\/em>, Nioh 2<\/em>, and The Last of Us Part II<\/em>. Most of their comments\u00a0praised the game’s visceral combat, the technical makeup, the overall world design, the characters, and the music.<\/p>\n

The rest of the list included the game Ikenfell<\/em>, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em>, No Man’s Sky<\/em>, Resident Evil 3<\/em>, The Last of Us Part II<\/em>, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2<\/em>, Persona 5 Royal<\/em>, and Streets of Rage 4<\/em>.\u00a0The post\u00a0concluded with praise\u00a0for\u00a0Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/em>, a second choice\u00a0for\u00a0The Last of Us Part II<\/em>, and two more selections\u00a0for\u00a0Ghost of Tsushima<\/em><\/a>. Despite everything that happened in 2020, game\u00a0developers were able to find\u00a0joy in the games released this year.<\/p>\n
