Originating in the cult classic\u00a0<strong><em>Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness<\/em><\/strong>, the Pokemon in question is now ready for battle in\u00a0<em>Pokemon Sword<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/pokemon\/\">Pokemon<\/a><\/em> franchise&#8217;s most unique features is its focus on allowing players to bring cherished Pokemon into each new game.\u00a0While <em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Shield<\/em> do not allow every Pokemon to come to the Galar region, Nintendo offers <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-home-1-million-mobile-download\/\">the\u00a0<em>Pokemon Home\u00a0<\/em>application<\/a> as a way to store every Pokemon for future games<i>.\u00a0<\/i>In the past, Pokemon could even be transferred between mainline entries and spin-offs like\u00a0<em>My Pokemon Ranch<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Pokemon Stadium<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Pokemon Battle Revolution<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/first-pokemon-spin-offs-chronological\/\">The First 10 Pok\u00e9mon Spin-Offs (In Chronological Order)<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Reddit user bodnast revealed that they use the same Salamence in\u00a0<em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> that they met in\u00a0<em>Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness<\/em> 15 years ago. Salamence must have traveled from\u00a0<em>Gale of\u00a0<\/em><em>Darkness<\/em> to the Game Boy Advance\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> games, the Nintendo DS games, the 3DS games, and finally\u00a0<em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> on the Switch. While fans have made an easy-to-read <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-transfer-how\/\">infographic for the Pokemon transfer process<\/a>, the transfer is time-consuming, with bodnast noting that it could have been easier.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pokemon\/comments\/kpl87k\/my_shadow_salamence_from_xd_is_now_in_sword_how\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As one of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/best-shadow-pokemon-ranked\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness<\/em>&#8216; Shadow Pokemon<\/a>, this particular Salamence had to be acquired in an unusual way. The player needed to steal (or &#8220;snag&#8221;) the Salamence from the villainous Cipher Admin Eldes and purify it before it could be transferred to the mainline Game Boy Advance games. Sadly, anyone looking at a Pokemon transferred to\u00a0<em>Sword<\/em> from\u00a0<em>Gale of Darkness<\/em> would just see a normal Pokemon, with no acknowledgement of its shadowy origins. Moreover, on a broader level, <em>Pokemon Sword<\/em>\u00a0and <em>Shield<\/em> don&#8217;t\u00a0acknowledge\u00a0<em>Gale of Darkness<\/em> or its setting, the Arizona-like Orre Region, in any way.<\/p>\n<p>The Reddit post also highlights the ease with which Pokemon in <em>Sword<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Shield<\/em> can grow stronger and be optimized for competitive battles. For example, players can retroactively max out a Pokemon&#8217;s genetic potential (the stats known as IVs) through Hyper Training. Perhaps the biggest new addition is the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-ability-patch-hidden-abilities\/\">Ability Patch, introduced in the <em>Crown Tundra<\/em> expansion<\/a>, that unlocks a Pokemon&#8217;s Hidden Ability. With the Ability patch, bodnast was able to give Salamence the ability Moxie, which is useful for turning Salamance into an offensive powerhouse.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, there is one aspect of using Salamence that does not carry over into\u00a0<em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Shield<\/em> from past installments: Mega Salamence, the Pokemon&#8217;s Mega Evolution. Although the latest games introduce the new Dynamax mechanic, they represent a return to the series&#8217; roots in other ways, abolishing <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-and-shield-mega-evolutions-z-moves\/\">ultra-powerful Z-Moves and fan-favorite Mega Evolutions<\/a>.
