Recording-breaking champion <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/jeopardy-temp-host-ken-jennings-apology-offensive-tweets\/\">Ken Jennings, currently caught up in a scandal<\/a> related to inappropriate Tweets, is set to guest host first. With no permanent replacement lined up, Burton&#8217;s supporters are taking to the Internet in hopes of making him a serious contender.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ken-jennings-serve-interim-jeopardy-host\/\">Ken Jennings to Serve as Interim Jeopardy! Host<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/sony-pictures-entertainment-levar-burton-should-be-the-next-host-of-jeopardy\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Change.org petition<\/a> created by Joshua Sanders, Burton &#8220;has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds.&#8221;\u00a0The\u00a0<em>Reading Rainbow<\/em>\u00a0host and\u00a0<em>Star Trek\u00a0<\/em>actor has the voice, professional demeanor, and sense of humor to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/jeopardy-pay-respects-f-meme\/\">carry the\u00a0<em>Jeopardy!<\/em>\u00a0torch<\/a>.\u00a0So far, the petition boasts over 111,000 signatures, but Sanders hopes to reach at least 150,000. When Burton found out about the campaign,\u00a0he\u00a0thanked his fans on Twitter while paying homage to Trebek.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/levarburton\/status\/1327024717883170816\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Burton&#8217;s breakout role was young Kunta Kinte in ABC&#8217;s 1977\u00a0<em>Roots<\/em> miniseries. From 1993 until 2006, Burton hosted PBS&#8217;s beloved children&#8217;s program\u00a0<em>Reading Rainbow<\/em>, which explores the joy and fun of reading books. When he wasn&#8217;t hanging out in libraries and bookstores, Burton brought Lt. Junior Grade\u00a0Geordi LaForge to life in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-trek-non-binary-transgender-characters\/\">various\u00a0<em>Star Trek<\/em> series<\/a> and movies; he even directed multiple episodes over the decades. These days, Burton\u00a0continues to explore his love for literacy and the written word via his popular podcast\u00a0<em>LeVar Burton Reads<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Picking Burton as Trebek&#8217;s successor makes perfect sense.\u00a0Aside from being a familiar face, Burton&#8217;s curiosity knows no bounds. The actor&#8217;s thirst for knowledge is well-documented,\u00a0so Burton is fully equipped to maintain the respectful, intellectual tone established by Trebek during his 36-year tenure on <em>Jeopardy!<\/em>.\u00a0Primetime television is also in desperate need of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/interview-txg-head-talent-amber-howard-talks-diversity-content-creation-future-streaming\/\">more\u00a0inclusive practices and diversity<\/a>.\u00a0The next host of\u00a0<em>Jeopardy!<\/em> should be a person of color, and who better than LeVar Burton to\u00a0bring the series to whole new generations of potential game show watchers?<\/p>\n<p><em>Jeopardy!<\/em> enthusiasts have very strong opinions about who should be the next long-term host. Some are in favor of former champions like Ken Jennings and\u00a0James Holzhauer. Others want to see a seasoned competition show\u00a0celebrity\u00a0step up to the plate, whether it be\u00a0Tom Bergeron or even Betty White. Still, more have journalists such as\u00a0Alex Faust and Laura Coates in mind.
