The Beyond Light<\/em> expansion implemented many sweeping changes to Destiny 2<\/em><\/strong> as well as adding some brand new content. Fans\u00a0finally got to play\u00a0with the first of the long awaited Darkness subclasses, delved into the icy moon of Europa<\/a>, and faced a new faction of Fallen. Meanwhile, Hand Cannon weapon archetypes got holistic reworks and the progression systems saw tuning. That said, Bungie usually omits few worthwhile updates from the patch notes every so often. The Reddit community believes that Warlocks got a secret buff, granting them damage resistance when casting their Rift ability.<\/p>\n

Introduced with Destiny 2<\/em><\/a>, the Rift is the Warlock’s class ability, allowing them to place down a medium sized aura on the ground. Any ally, including the player, that steps inside this field is granted a passive buff so long as they don’t exit the Rift. Depending on what the Warlock specializes in, the Rift can grant a damage bonus to weapons or provide a constant stream of healing.<\/p>\n

As with most class specific abilities, using the Rift takes the player into third person view for the animation to play. Since the casting of said ability cannot be cancelled easily, players can sometimes become sitting ducks if they try to place a Rift at an inopportune moment. Luckily, Beyond Light<\/em> seems to have added a 20% damage resistance to Warlocks<\/a> while they are casting a Rift. The bonus ends once the Rift has been fully deployed,\u00a0right before\u00a0the camera starts turning back into first person mode.<\/p>\n

A 20% damage resistance can be a massive boon since it throws off the time-to-kill of many weapons dramatically. For instance, Hand Cannons that normally kill in three bullets, require four. It also disrupts certain instant-kill weapons<\/a>, like shotguns, giving the defending Warlock player a chance to retaliate. This buff is applied whether the player uses Healing Rift or Empowering Rift and is subclass-agnostic.<\/p>\n

While many players seem to agree that this is indeed a recent change, some fans have claimed that the buff was around well before Beyond Light<\/em> came out<\/a>. Adding to this, they’ve pointed out that a similar hidden perk has been in the Titan toolkit for some time. While casting their Barrier class ability, Titans receive a damage resistance buff to compensate for the immobility during the animation. With Beyond Light<\/em>, however, Titans can now fully convert their Barrier into a self defense overshield thanks to a newly released exotic.<\/p>\n
