Releasing late last year to a\u00a0divisive reception,\u00a0Madden NFL 21\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>hasn’t exactly been in the good graces of its audience. From the game’s\u00a0failure to introduce any new innovations since the previous year’s release to its line-up of egregious bugs and glitches,\u00a0Madden\u00a0<\/em>players\u00a0voiced their\u00a0frustration with EA’s milking of the license<\/a>, demanding the team fix the game and begin working towards delivering a more enticing entry at the tail-end of 2021.<\/p>\n

It seems\u00a0Madden<\/a>‘s\u00a0<\/em>method to rekindling its fanbase’s passion for the series has been an unexpected one, however, as the title’s Twitter page has just\u00a0teased that it’s currently in the process of delivering a crossover with\u00a0SpongeBob SquarePants.\u00a0<\/em>That’s right, one of the year’s biggest sports games will somehow be merging with a children’s cartoon about a talking sea sponge and his underwater friends.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the crossover doesn’t reveal too much, showcasing SpongeBob’s face above a reveal date of January 7. It seems whatever this strange promotion turns out to be, it won’t be long until\u00a0players find out more, with Thursday allegedly giving fans a closer look at the latest addition to Madden 21<\/em>. Whatever the crossover winds up being, it will likely tie-in to this Sunday’s Wild Card game<\/a> between the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints, with the match slated to be presented by Nickelodeon due to the channel being owned by the same company as CBS Sports. A\u00a0recent teaser for the match showcased that, alongside being\u00a0broadcast on\u00a0Nickelodeon, it would feature the channel’s wacky\u00a0style and characters, with slime\u00a0filters, a SpongeBob<\/em>-focused pre-match countdown, and more.<\/p>\n
