To say that the Xbox Series X\/S consoles have sold well would be a major understatement, but it doesn’t mean that everything has been smooth sailing for early adopters. A recurring issue of controllers randomly disconnecting from the\u00a0Xbox Series X<\/a>\/S has now officially been addressed by Microsoft.<\/p>\n

This issue has been a problem since the Xbox Series X\/S launched, with players reporting that their controllers would randomly disconnect from the consoles despite still having a charge. Though the Xbox Series X\/S have been out for nearly a couple of months, the problem hasn’t been fixed, and Microsoft is\u00a0now addressing the issue.<\/p>\n

Speaking with The Verge, a Microsoft spokesperson stated, “We are aware some players may be experiencing disconnects with their new Xbox Wireless Controllers<\/a> and our teams are actively working on a solution to be included in a future update.” Unfortunately, there’s no further information as to when this update may come, or if the fix will be included in the next update or not. However, if the development team is still\u00a0working on\u00a0a solution, players may not want to hold their breath for the issue to be immediately resolved.<\/p>\n

While the majority of Xbox Series X\/S users haven’t been experiencing this problem,\u00a0there are many\u00a0who haven’t been\u00a0as lucky. Xbox Series X\/S users have flocked to Reddit, social media, and the Xbox forums themselves, with nearly 2,000 users acknowledging that they, too, were having an issue with their controllers. While many fans are likely enjoying their time with their next-generation console, issues with controllers, like the Nintendo Joy-Con drift<\/a>, can pose a serious problem for players who just want to enjoy the games they’ve purchased.<\/p>\n

For now, there isn’t much players can do about the problem other than trying to reset their controllers. Directly connecting the controller to the console has been shown to be one potential fix, while other users have had to completely reboot the Xbox Series X\/S<\/a> to get them working again.<\/p>\n

While the PS5 had its own set of problems at launch, it has avoided having a controller problem as severe as this one. Some users have reported experiencing difficulties with pairing the controller upon starting up the console for the first time, however.<\/p>\n

Due to the nature of this bug, Xbox will likely be able to fix it just by issuing a patch. This likely comes as a relief to those who experienced controller drift on the Xbox One<\/a>, which still has a class action lawsuit pending, though Microsoft is actively attempting to get the lawsuit thrown out. Until the patch arrives, players will just have to cope as well as they can.<\/p>\n
