Preparations for the\u00a010th anniversary of the annual New York Game Awards is underway as the list of nominees was announced yesterday. Presented by the\u00a0New York Videogame Critics Circle and co-hosted by former president and COO of Nintendo of America<\/a>\u00a0Reggie Fils-Aim\u00e9, the video game awards ceremony will play out a bit differently this year.\u00a0In previous years, such an event would be met with anticipation from fans and the gaming industry alike, all of whom would attend these ceremonies in person.<\/p>\n

However, due to the landscape that the year 2020 has left the world, in terms of\u00a0social distancing\u00a0and other safety protocol, it is expected that the “online-only” approach will continue well into 2021.\u00a0The concept of a digital-only experience has been received with a positive response. The Game Awards, hosted last month as a digital-only experience, shattered viewership records from upwards of an 83% increase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Making the best out of an uncertain year, 2020 was a colossal year for video games. March was one of the important months of the year as\u00a0Animal Crossing: New Horizons\u00a0<\/em>brought people around the world\u00a0together<\/a> as the circumstances drifted everyone physically apart.\u00a0Doom Eternal<\/em> was released on the same day as\u00a0ACNH<\/em>, reaching critical acclaim in the same vein as the latter.<\/p>\n

Hades<\/em> was a ground-breaking indie hit that brought the love of rogue-like games to the masses.\u00a0Alongside\u00a0Hades<\/em>, games like\u00a0Fall Guys, Ori and the Will of the Wisps,\u00a0<\/em>and sleeper hit\u00a0<\/a>Umurangi Generation<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>became successful over time.\u00a0From a bevy of AAA titles and indie titles alike, there was truly something for anyone and everyone.<\/p>\n

There’s a big list of nominees for the ceremony, all fitted into categories related to a major landmark within or nearby New York City. Listed below are the numerous game award categories and their respective nominees for the 2021 New York Game Awards.<\/p>\n
