Last year, Ubisoft announced that it is developing a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time<\/strong><\/em>, which was originally released back in 2003 and is widely regarded as the best entry in the franchise. Unfortunately, when Ubisoft unveiled the\u00a0Sands of Time<\/em><\/a>\u00a0remake’s first preview, fans immediately voiced their disappointment. The studio revealed last December, seemingly as a result, that it is delaying the game’s release from January 21st, 2021, to March 18th to further polish the game.<\/p>\n

It is interesting to see just how different the remake will be compared to the first footage shown last September.\u00a0However, the big question now is what Ubisoft is planning for the Prince of Persia<\/em> franchise’s future. It is still unclear whether Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is just a one-off thing for the Prince of Persia<\/em> franchise, but luckily for fans, there is a possibility that the upcoming remake is just the beginning of the revival of the series.<\/p>\n

A few weeks after Ubisoft revealed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time<\/em>\u00a0remake, a rumor began circulating online that the studio is also planning to revive the franchise with a reboot game<\/a>. This rumor originated from YouTuber Lazy Assassin, who was able to tip the video game community of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time<\/em>\u00a0remake before Ubisoft’s big announcement. Before anything else, it is worth remembering that everything the YouTuber revealed is still unverified, so players should take the information with a grain of salt.<\/p>\n

According to the YouTuber, Ubisoft plans to release a completely new game in the franchise after the Sands of Time<\/em> remake launches in 2021. As for what this unannounced game will cover, it was mentioned that this new game, which is estimated to release in 2023 or 2024, will completely reboot the franchise in hopes of introducing Prince of Persia<\/em> to a whole new generation of gamers. At the moment, it is difficult to\u00a0gauge whether this rumor is true, given that the Sands of Time<\/em> remake is still in development<\/a>. Ubisoft will likely wait to see the reception of fans on the upcoming remake. If it proves to be a success, the studio would likely capitalize on its success by developing more Prince of Persia<\/em> games.<\/p>\n

The question now is whether or not Ubisoft is planning to develop more remakes\u00a0in the future. Again, it appears now that this will be dependent on whether the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time<\/em> remake will be a success. However, given the commitment\u00a0and effort that Ubisoft is pouring into the remake’s development, there is a high possibility that the upcoming game will be a success and will result to even more remakes of previous Prince of Persia<\/em> games<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that other video game developers\u00a0were able to recapture the interest of fans by reimagining its back catalog. After a long time releasing lackluster games, Capcom’s Resident Evil<\/em> gained its momentum back after Resident Evil 7<\/em> in 2017 that returned the franchise to its survival horror roots. Capcom even leveled up Resident Evil’s popularity<\/a> after the release of Resident Evil 2 <\/em>and Resident Evil 3<\/em> remakes, and it is rumored now that the studio is planning for more reimaginings in the future of the franchise.<\/p>\n

If Ubisoft will follow the footsteps of Capcom, then the studio is already on the right track with the Sands of Time remake, especially since it is the most popular game in the Prince of Persia<\/em> franchise. Assuming that more remakes will be developed soon, Ubisoft could start with other popular games in the franchise, such as remakes of Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame<\/em> and Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within<\/em>. Of course, given that the transition to the new generation of consoles is already underway, Ubisoft could introduce Prince of Persia<\/em> to a new generation<\/a> of players by releasing more remakes or even a reboot game to the PS5 and Xbox Series X alongside the PC and other consoles.<\/p>\n
