With 2020 over, many gamers have been reviewing the year in gaming as a whole. While there were plenty of popular titles that rose to prominence, the titles released by\u00a0Sony<\/strong> have been considered the best of the best.<\/p>\n

Sony<\/a>‘s PS4 is considered by many to have “won” the past console generation,\u00a0with\u00a0its selection of console exclusives adding to its success. Now, a couple months after the launch of the PS5, that same\u00a0attribute seems to be holding true thanks to popular titles such as\u00a0Spider-Man: Miles Morales\u00a0<\/em>and the remake of\u00a0Demon’s Souls<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Not only is it the consensus that Sony has more exclusives, but that the exclusives are better than many of its Microsoft and Nintendo competitors. While a “Game of the Year” is essentially a subjective title to everyone, recent industry award results lend themselves to PlayStation’s titles. According to a blog called Game of the Year Picks, which collects\u00a0wins from around the globe, Sony has claimed the most GOTY titles for the past three years. The blog states that in addition to winning at The Game Awards 2020,\u00a0The Last of Us 2<\/em><\/a>\u00a0garnered\u00a0136 Game of the Year awards, which is\u00a0nearly four times more than\u00a0Hades<\/em>, which came in second place with 37 as of this writing.<\/p>\n

Another PlayStation-exclusive,\u00a0the acclaimed\u00a0Ghost of Tsushima<\/em>, managed to snag 20 of the titles from various outlets. It’s the third consecutive year that a PS4 game has taken the top honors, following in the footsteps of 2018’s\u00a0God of War\u00a0<\/em>and 2019’s\u00a0Death Stranding<\/em>. There’s actually a chance that\u00a0The Last of Us 2<\/em>\u00a0could tack on another one, as\u00a0it has been\u00a0nominated for GOTY\u00a0at the upcoming New York Game Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All of the accolades in recent years certainly speak to not just the quality of PlayStation’s internal studios, but the efficiency of their management. However, despite all of the accolades, Sony is struggling in certain regions. A recent report says\u00a0the PS5 may become one of the lowest-selling consoles in Japan<\/a>, the company’s native country. Many gamers believe this is due to the company’s heavier global focus and an overall lack of console availability.<\/p>\n

Although Sony<\/strong> has been doing well with its IP, the company is looking to bring more to the big and small screen. Sony currently has three movies and seven TV shows<\/a> based on video games in the works. While video game adaptations\u00a0have notoriously been bad in the past, hopes are high that these live-action productions can break the curse.<\/p>\n
