Although classic games like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/super-mario-64\/\"><em>Super\u00a0<\/em><\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/super-mario-64\/\">Mario 64<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/ocarina-of-time\/\">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>are still thoroughly enjoyable, it&#8217;s hard to deny that they have their flaws today, and it&#8217;s no surprise that both games have already received excellent remakes on handheld consoles.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-64-n64-games-ported-surprising\/\">N64: 10 Games You Never Knew Were Ported To The Nintendo 64<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ocarina-of-time-3d-vs-majoras-mask-3d-best-remake\/\">The success of N64 remakes<\/a> like the aforementioned\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Mario\u00a0<\/em>titles along with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/resident-evil-2\/\"><em>Resident Evil 2<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and<em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/conkers-bad-fur-day\/\">Conker&#8217;s Bad Fur Day<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>has opened the door for more of Nintendo&#8217;s classic 3D titles to be given a modern makeover. Though just because a game was beloved in the late 90s, doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean it needs to be given a modern iteration.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>(Shouldn&#8217;t Be Remade) Mario Golf<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/N64-Mario-Golf.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>There was once a time where <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-golf-games-metacritic\/\">golf games<\/a> were among the most critically acclaimed sporting titles; the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/tiger-woods\/\">Tiger Woods PGA Tour<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>series perfected the analog swing, whereas titles like\u00a0<em>Mario Golf\u00a0<\/em>and everybody&#8217;s golf made great use of the simplistic 3 click system.<\/p>\n<p>The issue with golf games today is that they haven&#8217;t been able to progress from where they were in the late 90s and early 2000s; the graphics and visuals make great strides each year, but developers have struggled to reinvent an enjoyable control scheme. For this reason, Nintendo shouldn&#8217;t spend their time on a\u00a0<em>Mario Golf\u00a0<\/em>game, as although the visuals are extremely dated, the gameplay still captures the essence of simple yet addictive fun.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>(Should Be Remade) Rayman 2: The Great Escape<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/rayman-2-the-great-escape.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Ubisoft wasted little time reinventing <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/rayman-video-games-best-worst-franchise-ubisoft\/\">their mascot character<\/a>, with his second game\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/rayman\/\">Rayman 2: The Great Escape<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>ditching the first game&#8217;s side-scrolling and replacing it with\u00a0<em>Super Mario 64\u00a0<\/em>inspired open 3D levels.<\/p>\n<p>Ubisoft&#8217;s last two main series outings with Rayman have taken the platformer back to his side-scrolling roots with two fantastic games in\u00a0<em>Rayman Origins\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Rayman Legends<\/em>. Despite the critical acclaim that the games received, Ubisoft don&#8217;t appear to have any plans to return to the modern side-scrolling series. For this reason, a successful remake of one of their limbless hero&#8217;s most critically acclaimed games could be the spark that Ubisoft needs to rejuvenate the <em>Rayman<\/em> franchise.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>(Shouldn&#8217;t Be Remade) Paper Mario<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/n64-paper-mario.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s fair to say that\u00a0Nintendo&#8217;s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/paper-mario\/\">Paper Mario<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>series has had a steady decline since\u00a0the original\u00a0<em>Paper Mario\u00a0<\/em>released on the Nintendo 64 in 2000. There&#8217;s a reason why the Japanese company continues to persist with it though, and that&#8217;s because they captured lightning in a bottle with their first entry to the series.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/most-underrated-platformers-n64-overrated\/\">5 Most Underrated Platformers On The N64 (&amp; 5 That Are Overrated)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Remaking the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/paper-mario-series-ranked-metacritic\/\">most critically acclaimed\u00a0<em>Paper Mario\u00a0<\/em>title<\/a> may seem like an ideal way to inject some quality back into the series, but the game simply doesn&#8217;t leave much room for improvement; the game is still excellent to play today, and more impressively, still looks fantastic. Therefore, Nintendo&#8217;s best bet would likely be to simply remaster the game for the Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>(Should Be Remade) Star Wars Episode 1: Racer<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Star-Wars-Episode-1-Racer.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Podracing scene from\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/star-wars\/\">Star Wars: Episode I<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>had &#8220;tie-in video game&#8221; written all over it, and LucasArts wasted little time in releasing one with\u00a0<em>Star Wars Episode 1: Racer\u00a0<\/em>hitting shelves the day before the prequel film came to theaters.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Podracing being a rare occurrence outside of\u00a0<em>Episode I,\u00a0<\/em>the idea of a remake of the N64 game that adds tracks from all over the\u00a0<em>Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>universe sounds very appealing. Moreover, the concept could be very appealing to the game&#8217;s publisher, as if they wanted to take a non-canon approach they could add numerous characters in the form of microtransactions.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>(Shouldn&#8217;t Be Remade) Mario Party 3<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Mario-Party-3-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Considered to be the best\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/mario-party\/\">Mario Party<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>game to date, if there was one entry to the series that would be remade, it would likely be\u00a0<em>Mario Party 3.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite how highly regarded the game is by both fans and critics, a remake of the game doesn&#8217;t sound particularly enticing. The reason is that the issue with modern Mario party games is that they&#8217;ve struggled to reinvent the series and seem to have lost their charm. A remake of an earlier game wouldn&#8217;t fix this issue, so Nintendo should instead spend their time trying to breathe life back into the mini-game franchise.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>(Should Be Remade)\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Stadium<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Pokemon-Stadium.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Although a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/skyrim\/\"><em>Skyrim<\/em><\/a>-like\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/pokemon\/\">Pok\u00e9mon<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>game is still at the forefront of fans&#8217; hopes and dreams, a remake of either the original\u00a0<em>Pok\u00e9mon Stadium\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<em>Pok\u00e9mon Stadium 2\u00a0<\/em>is a tantalizing alternative.<\/p>\n<p><em>Pok\u00e9mon Stadium\u00a0<\/em>differentiated itself from the popular Game Boy titles by ditching the world exploring and storyline in favor of expanding the series&#8217; strategic combat. The game also offered a great range of mini-games, to ensure that it didn&#8217;t feel too one-dimensional.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>(Shouldn&#8217;t Be Remade) GoldenEye 007<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/N64-Goldeneye-007-Scientist-Hostage.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>One of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/brutal-games-like-doom\/\">most influential FPS games<\/a> of all time alongside\u00a0classics like\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/doom\/\">DOOM<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Rare&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/goldeneye-007\/\"><em>GoldenEye\u00a0<\/em><\/a><em>007\u00a0<\/em>proved that the genre wasn&#8217;t just suited for PC gaming, and had a bright future on home consoles.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/rarest-n64-games-value-nintendo\/\">The 15 Rarest N64 Games (&amp; How Much They&#8217;re Worth)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Although the multiplayer is still great fun to play today and the single-play is an enjoyable nostalgia trip, the game isn&#8217;t in need of a remake. Simply put, numerous games have been released since 1997 that have taken ideas from\u00a0<em>GoldenEye 007\u00a0<\/em>and modernized them in different ways. Therefore, a <em>GoldenEye 007\u00a0<\/em>remake would need to completely change the core of the game to be successful, at which point it&#8217;s better to just release a new title.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>(Should Be Remade) Banjo-Kazooie<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/banjo-kazooie.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>When Microsoft acquired Rare in 2002, a sequel to\u00a02000&#8217;s\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/banjo-kazooie\/\">Banjo-Tooie<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>seemed like it was just around the corner. After a long wait, fans finally got their wish in 2008 with\u00a0<em>Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts,\u00a0<\/em>although the game wasn&#8217;t what fans had been hoping for. <em>Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts\u00a0<\/em>was certainly not a bad game, but it wasn&#8217;t a return to the collectathon formula that fans had hoped for.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Banjo-Kazooie\u00a0<\/em>franchise seems to be dead and buried at this point, but that doesn&#8217;t mean fans should give up hope. With Microsoft surely looking to improve its lineup of exclusives with the Xbox Series X|S, an exclusive remake of\u00a0<em>Banjo Kazooie\u00a0<\/em>has surely crossed their minds. The remake would certainly perk ears, and successful sales could see the series finally receiving a long-awaited sequel in the same vein a\u00a0<em>Crash Bandicoot 4: It&#8217;s About Time.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>(Shouldn&#8217;t Be Remade) Mario Kart 64<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Mario-Kart-64-Blue-Shell.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Considered to be one of the best kart racers ever made,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/mario-kart\/\">Mario Kart 64<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>made the jump to polygon-based 3D in style. The gameplay was excellently balanced and still makes it one of the most enjoyable kart racers to pick up and play today.<\/p>\n<p>Much like\u00a0<em>Mario Party 3,\u00a0<\/em>the reason why the beloved game doesn&#8217;t need to be remade is that Nintendo is better off finding ways to improve the series moving forward, rather than reliving past successes.
