Drago Ball Z: Kakarot<\/em><\/strong> has been out for almost a year and has released two DLC packs so far. The game is a single-player RPG that follows the story of the Saiyan Kakarot, also known as Goku. The main game follows the first three arcs from the anime, with the DLC packs extending the story into that of\u00a0Dragon Ball Super<\/em>. Missing from the game so far is any content from\u00a0Dragon Ball GT<\/em>, the now alternate-timeline story that initially followed\u00a0DBZ\u00a0<\/em>before series creator Akira Toriyama returned to create\u00a0Super.\u00a0<\/em>To continue its longevity the game should take a page from its fighting-game counterpart\u00a0Dragon Ball FighterZ<\/em><\/a>\u00a0by embracing and including the content from\u00a0GT<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Since its release in 2018,\u00a0Dragon Ball FighterZ<\/em>\u00a0has released three packs of DLC fighters, adding to its already expansive roster of combatants. The first character added to the game from the\u00a0GT\u00a0<\/em>storyline was Kid Goku, the Saiyan having been turned back into a child by the Dragon Balls. Additionally, this character featured a super attack that had Goku assuming his Super Saiyan 4 form, a fan-favorite. And since then,\u00a0Baby Vegeta<\/a>, a parasite-controlled Vegeta, and Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, a powered-up fusion of Goku and Vegeta, have been revealed as the next two fighters coming to the game’s prolific roster.<\/p>\n

While it has been featured in\u00a0Dragon Ball FighterZ<\/em>, GT\u00a0<\/em>is still a controversial part of\u00a0Dragon Ball<\/em>‘s history, fans are split about its quality and importance to the canon overall. But if\u00a0Dragon Ball Z:\u00a0<\/em>Kakarot<\/em><\/a> wants to extend its lifespan while appealing to a wider swath of\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0<\/em>fans, then the game should embrace\u00a0GT<\/em> and its content as extensions of the story of Goku the way\u00a0DBFZ\u00a0<\/em>has done. This would also go a long way to assuage some fan’\u00a0 issues with\u00a0Kakarot<\/em> about the lack of original content or content that hasn’t already been experienced in games a multitude of times.<\/p>\n

The story of\u00a0Dragon Ball Z<\/em>\u00a0is popular for a reason, but fans have already experienced that core story in a myriad of games across different genres. Original material and less-often explored content is part of why games like\u00a0DBFZ\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Dragon Ball Xenoverse<\/em>\u00a0are so popular with fans still, and mixing in content from\u00a0Dragon Ball<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>GT\u00a0<\/em>would help keep the game from feeling stale.<\/p>\n

While the story of\u00a0Dragon Ball GT<\/em> is controversial, the characters and transformations are some of fans’ favorites. Enemies like Omega Shenron, Baby, and Super 17 are popular adversaries that don’t receive as much representation in the gaming realm. Unique to\u00a0GT <\/em>is the Super Saiyan 4 transformation, a form that references back to the Saiyan’s ability to transform into great raging apes,\u00a0and is one of fans’ favorite forms the Saiyans take in battle.\u00a0DBFZ<\/em> is embracing these characters with their inclusion of characters like Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta<\/a> as playable fighters.<\/p>\n

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot<\/em> has one more DLC already planned and it will most likely continue the story of\u00a0Super<\/em><\/a>, but if it wants to keep relevant and rope in more fans, the game would do well to learn from the success of\u00a0DBFZ\u00a0<\/em>and embrace\u00a0Dragon Ball GT.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dragonball: Kakarot<\/em><\/strong> is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.<\/p>\n
