However, eagle-eyed fans have spotted what could be a cameo by the &#8216;Snyder Cut&#8217; of <em>Justice League<\/em> in one of the newly released photos.<\/p>\n<p>During the post-production phase of Warner Bros. and DC&#8217;s<em> Justice League<\/em>, Snyder stepped away from the project due to a personal family tragedy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gal-gadot-joss-whedon-conflicts-justice-league\/\"><em>Avengers<\/em> director Joss Whedon was brought on board<\/a> to carry the project through to its November 2017 release. However, the studio would also task Whedon with overseeing extensive reshoots that significantly altered Snyder&#8217;s original vision for the film. After <em>Justice League<\/em> debuted in theaters to poor reviews and disappointing box office figures, several fans launched a campaign calling on Warner Bros. to release Snyder&#8217;s original version of the DC film.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/jared-leto-ayer-cut-suicide-squad\/\">Jared Leto Is Backing An &#8216;Ayer Cut&#8217; Suicide Squad Release<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>After roughly three years, the\u00a0campaign culminated with Snyder\u00a0declaring his cut of<em> Justice League<\/em> will debut on HBO Max in 2021. However, prior to the announcement, there had been some question regarding whether or not an alternate cut of the film even existed. In December 2019, Snyder attempted to <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/justice-league-zack-snyder-directors-cut-confirmed-real-exists\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prove his cut of <em>Justice League<\/em> existed<\/a>\u00a0by posting a photo of\u00a0film canisters\u00a0labeled\u00a0&#8220;Z.S.,&#8221; &#8220;JL,&#8221; and &#8220;Director&#8217;s Cut&#8221; on social media. Now, fans believe those canisters\u00a0are among the items being stored in the vault featured in one of the new A<em>rmy of the Dead<\/em> photos released through <em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UberKryptonian\/status\/1346901949946490890\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Conceived initially after Snyder completed his remake of George A. Romero&#8217;s<em> Dawn of the Dead <\/em>in 2004, <em>Army of the Dead<\/em> remained in development hell for years until Netflix acquired the\u00a0distribution rights to the project from Warner Bros. in 2019.\u00a0Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Dave Bautista and Tig Notaro, the story centers on a team of mercenaries\u00a0attempting a heist on a Las Vegas casino\u00a0in the midst of\u00a0a zombie outbreak caused by a plague released from the Area 51 military base in Nevada. The film is set to be the first in a franchise that will also include an anime web series titled\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/netflix-zack-snyder-army-of-the-dead-prequel-anime-series\/\">Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>as well as\u00a0a feature-length prequel directed by and starring\u00a0Matthias Schweigh\u00f6fer.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Snyder is hard at work completing his cut of <em>Justice League<\/em> after shooting additional material for the new version of the film. Among those who participated in Snyder&#8217;s reshoots were Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, Amber Heard, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/jared-letos-joker-new-scences-zack-snyders-justice-league\/\">Jared Leto as the Joker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Snyder had envisioned <em>Justice League<\/em> as one installment of a five-part story arc, his new cut for HBO Max will now exist in a separate universe with no connection to the ongoing DC Extended Universe franchise.
