While this is an impressive feat on its own, its latest iteration of the series, <\/span><b><i>The Sims 4<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will turn 7 this year. Previous installments have lasted anywhere from 4 to 5 years, so <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-sims-4\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has clearly tapped into something that\u2019s allowed it to last for almost twice as long as its predecessors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this in mind, it\u2019ll be exciting to see what <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">team has in store for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2021. Though almost all of it is speculation, players of the iconic franchise are sure to see some additional features added to the game via DLC or free base game updates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><b>RELATED: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sims-4-similar-games-recommendations\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>15 Games You Should Play If You Like The Sims 4<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheSims\/status\/1346853652556869632\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to its longevity, it\u2019s no surprise that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">already has a plethora of DLC. Last year alone saw the release of two expansion packs, two stuff packs,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sims-4-star-wars-batuu-dlc-review\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a <em>Sims<\/em> game pack<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Though not all of them were well-received,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may still have more content up its sleeve to help with this. In fact, Simmers can expect an announcement about the theme of the new stuff pack on January 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This timeline makes sense, as last year\u2019s first stuff pack, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tiny Living<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was announced at a similar point in the month. Given <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sims-4-teases-spooky-stuff-pack-dlc\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the clues that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 social media has dropped<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, along with a GIF of a Sim surrounded by floating green orbs, players are expecting this stuff pack to be titled <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Happy Haunts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (or something similar) based on the survey sent out last year to determine what the community-voted stuff pack would be themed. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nifty Knitting<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won, but the community reacted positively to another supernaturally themed pack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond the fact that the floating orbs in the GIF look similar to ghosts, the post specifically mentions the word \u201creveal\u201d\u2014an obvious nod to how ghosts choose to show themselves or not. The proposed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Happy Haunts <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pack would have featured new freelancer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/playstation-2020-ps5-exclusives\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">careers for ghost hunting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, becoming a psychic, or even becoming a grim reaper. If \u201call will be revealed\u201d on January 12, it\u2019s not too far-fetched to think the upcoming stuff pack is the cut content from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Happy Haunts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s no indication that this stuff pack will be the last DLC released for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, either. It\u2019s been confirmed that the developer<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has content planned for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through 2021, though it\u2019s unclear just how much content is planned for this year. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sims-4-snowy-escape-review\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>The Sims 4<\/em> currently has 10 expansion packs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 9 game packs, and 17 (going on 18) stuff packs\u2014that\u2019s a lot of DLC for one base game and certainly the most DLC released for one <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sims <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">series. With a game this successful, it\u2019s possible there are no plans to slow down its expansion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><b>RELATED: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sims-4-2020-changes\/\"><b>The Best Changes Made to The Sims 4 in 2020<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/the-sims-5.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, all good things must come to an end, unfortunately, and one of those things may be the reign of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Going on 7 years is an incredible timeline, especially for a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sims <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">game, but the fact may be that the game is just a bit old now. It doesn\u2019t feel that way thanks to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/the-sims-4-skintone-update-overview\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the numerous base game updates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and additions that have been given to players throughout the years, but players have been vocal online about how the game doesn\u2019t run as smoothly as it used to. Plus, sometimes the release of new packs ends up \u201cbreaking\u201d another part of the game. This would be fine if there were patches that addressed the issues, but more often than not, there is no acknowledgement that something is amiss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a similar vein as to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-sims-4-university-features-want\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what happened with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 3<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is slowing down for players\u2014even those with high-end PCs. This was bound to happen given the amount of DLC released for the game, but it\u2019s still disheartening for players to experience. Besides slowing down, many players still critique the base game alone because it lacks gameplay that other titles, like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 2<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, had at launch. It almost feels like the various packs that are available are required for in-depth gameplay rather than being optional additions to the base game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was revolutionary at the time of its announcement and took a unique turn, opting for a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/minecraft-youtuber-dream-video-not-cartoon\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more cartoonish style rather than realistic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both Build\/Buy and Create-a-Sim modes have been the most advanced yet for the series, which is something many players don\u2019t take for granted. However, 2021 may be the perfect time to announce <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims 5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and build upon these improvements that have already been added to the series, and potentially add back some features that players have been vocal about missing.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/the-sims-4-seasons.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not news to players that there is an update to the base game before every pack release. This is to ensure the pack\u2019s additional content installs correctly and runs smoothly, but sometimes <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sims <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">team will add in other free content for players to enjoy. In the past, this has included things like Caribbean-inspired fashion and furniture, or a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-sims-4-hispanic-heritage-skin-tone-update-controversy-explained\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Hispanic heritage update to celebrate Hispanic culture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with new clothing or Build\/Buy mode objects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the very least, players can expect an update to the game prior to the release of the aforementioned new stuff pack.
