With the game launching in early December,\u00a0Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has dominated the top of the Steam charts since before it was even released, with CD Projekt Red’s controversial sci-fi RPG reigning supreme for 7 weeks. Although a number of games have come close to surpassing it, with\u00a0Sea of Thieves\u00a0<\/em>closing in on the crown\u00a0the week before last, it seems\u00a0Cyberpunk\u00a0<\/em>has finally been moved down the list by a classic Steam hit.<\/p>\n

The game in question is none other than\u00a0Rust<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em>with the incredibly popular multiplayer post-apocalyptic survival game managing to clinch the top spot last week over 7 years since its original debut back in 2013. It’s not all too surprising considering\u00a0Rust<\/em><\/a>\u00a0has had something of a resurgence as of late, with a number of streamers hopping back into the\u00a0game in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

Due to the introduction of the admittedly controversial OfflineTV server<\/a>, Pokimane, xQc, Valkyrie, and more have broadcast Rust <\/em>to the world, while even streamers outside of that bubble, such as Jacksepticeye, have got involved too.\u00a0The game even managed to crack over\u00a0$1,000,000 in Steam revenue on two separate days during this month alone.\u00a0Clearly,\u00a0it’s continuing to generate a huge audience despite being available for years now, with the team continuing to innovate and expand on the game’s concept to create a survival experience like no other.<\/p>\n

It seems Rust<\/em>\u00a0will be looking to conquer new platforms\u00a0very soon as well, with recent ratings from the ESRB confirming that the formerly PC-exclusive survival title will be making its way to consoles<\/a> sooner rather than later. The console ports have been in the works for a while now, originally being announced back in November 2019 before receiving a delay last year.\u00a0According to the ratings, it will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, sporting a mature\u00a0rating\u00a0due to bloody violence and cannibalism amongst\u00a0a variety of other reasons cited by the certification.<\/p>\n

Although\u00a0Rust\u00a0<\/em>took the top spot on the Steam rankings\u00a0last week,\u00a0the lineup was\u00a0filled with interesting games,\u00a0as\u00a0Cyberpunk 2077\u00a0<\/em>dropping to 3rd,\u00a0Sea of Thieves\u00a0<\/em>maintained its decent sales with\u00a0a fourth-place spot, and\u00a0Phasmophobia<\/em>\u00a0continuing to dominate\u00a0by bumping up to fifth. It’ll be interesting to see how Steam’s rankings look further into 2021, especially with the likes of IO Interactive’s\u00a0<\/a>Hitman 3<\/a>, The Medium,<\/em>\u00a0and Little Nightmares 2\u00a0<\/em>all making their way to Valve’s seminal PC marketplace very soon. Regardless,\u00a0Rust\u00a0<\/em>is clearly enjoying a newfound surge of players and could continue to do so with so much new attention from\u00a0Twitch viewers.<\/p>\n

Rust\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is out now for PC, with console ports currently in development.<\/p>\n
