Apple TV Plus dropped the first teaser for\u00a0<em>Cherry<\/em>, which shows Tom Holland playing a character that is <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/spider-man-tom-holland-peter-parker-comic-mannerisms\/\">very different from Peter Parker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cherry<\/em> is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Nico Walker, which follows a young man who\u00a0joins the army and later becomes a drug addict and bank robber when he returns home\u00a0during the opioid epidemic. The new clip shows <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/cherry-movie-posters-tom-holland-character-differences\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Holland as the lead character<\/a>, straight-faced\u00a0and wearing glasses, going to an Armed Forces career center. When asked why he wants to join up he says, &#8220;Well I&#8217;ve just been seeing on the news, you know, that there are kids dying over there, you know, guys from Cleveland who are my age, just trying to do something good, and here I am feeling sorry for myself because my girlfriend broke up with me.&#8221; The army recruiter suggests he&#8217;s searching for a sense of purpose, and we hear Tom Holland narrating that he was sworn in the next day, with the clip showing just that.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/xbox-series-x-launch-streaming-apps-apple-tv\/\"><strong>X-Box Series X Confirms Streaming Apps for Launch, Including Apple TV<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/avengers-endgame-behind-the-scenes-russo-brothers\/\">Despite teaming up with the Russo Brothers again<\/a>,\u00a0<em>Cherry<\/em> is a departure from both the directors and from Tom Holland&#8217;s role as Peter Parker in the MCU. Tom Holland&#8217;s voice and narration in the clip is serious, almost monotone, not resembling the energetic\u00a0Queens fast-talk of Peter. It promises to be a more adult role as well; while only his beginnings with the army are seen in this teaser, the source material promises\u00a0audiences will be seeing Tom Holland&#8217;s character dealing with drug addiction as well as criminal activity.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W_AZBr2H5ZI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;width:1280;height:720;\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tom-holland-forgotten-films-rotten-tomatoes-ratings\/\">This isn&#8217;t Tom Holland&#8217;s first role<\/a> since becoming<em>\u00a0<\/em>Spider-man. Among others, he featured in the period drama <em>The Current War<\/em> in 2017, and voiced characters in animated films\u00a0<em>Onward<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Spies in Disguise<\/em>.\u00a0In 2020, he had another chance to flex his serious acting muscles starring in Netflix&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Devil All The Time<\/em>, and his performance garnered rave reviews. The Russo Brothers, having already worked with him and knowing his talent, no doubt have been able to get another great performance from him.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Tom Holland will also be starring in\u00a0<em>Chaos Walking<\/em>, a sci-fi adventure based on a book series that will be out this year. In 2020 he completed filming the\u00a0<em>Uncharted<\/em> movie, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/uncharted-movie-images-2021\/\">where he stars as a young Nathan Drake<\/a>, and began production on the next\u00a0<em>Spider-man<\/em> film.
