Over the years, PlatinumGames has become very close with Nintendo, notably with\u00a0Nintendo-exclusive games like\u00a0Bayonetta 2<\/em>, Star Fox Zero<\/em>,\u00a0and originally\u00a0The Wonderful 101<\/em>. Fans have been awaiting the arrival of\u00a0Bayonetta 3<\/em><\/a> on the Nintendo Switch after it was announced at The Game Awards 2017, but Nintendo and PlatinumGames did work to bring an entirely new IP to the Switch in 2019:\u00a0Astral Chain<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The action-adventure hack-and-slash game was generally well received and has sold over\u00a0one million copies worldwide. While PlatinumGames’ work has been silent as of late, aside from the recent release of\u00a0The Wonderful 101: Remastered<\/em>, it seems that some interesting changes related to the\u00a0Astral Chain<\/a><\/em> IP have appeared on the developer’s Japanese website.<\/p>\n

While some fans have been keeping an eye on PlatinumGames for updates on\u00a0<\/a>Bayonetta 3,<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>ResetEra users have noticed that the page for\u00a0Astral Chain<\/em> on the developer’s Japanese website no longer includes PlatinumGames along with Nintendo in the IP’s copyright. This was pointed how by user evilmonkey, who compared\u00a0screenshots of how the website looks now to how it did a couple of\u00a0months ago.<\/p>\n

While an official statement has not been made by either Platinum nor Nintendo, this has fans wondering what Nintendo could be up to with the\u00a0Astral Chain<\/em> IP, especially as Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya has reportedly already teased an <\/a>Astral Chain<\/em><\/a>\u00a0sequel<\/a>.\u00a0One thing this shift in copyright ownership could mean is that Astral Chain<\/em> will remain exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, along with any potential sequels.\u00a0This occurrence has fans puzzled, as Nintendo tends to freely share copyrights with its\u00a0development partners, such as the joint ownership of the\u00a0Xenoblade\u00a0<\/em>IP before Nintendo’s acquisition of Monolith Soft.<\/p>\n

ResetEra user SinCityAssassin theorizes\u00a0that sales of\u00a0Astral Chain<\/em>\u00a0could have\u00a0slowed down enough to where PlatinumGames opted to sell Nintendo the remaining rights to the IP, and others think\u00a0that this could mean Nintendo potentially has more plans for\u00a0Astral Chain<\/em>\u00a0without Platinum. Either way, while Astral Chain<\/a><\/em>\u00a0sold fairly well,<\/a>\u00a0more exclusive IPs could translate to more Switch sales for Nintendo, and potentially more content for Nintendo Switch owners.<\/p>\n

This copyright change also has fans wondering if Nintendo has had more acquisitions on its\u00a0mind aside from Next Level Games<\/a>.\u00a0Regardless, 2021 is already shaping up to include some interesting\u00a0changes for Nintendo, so fans of the company may have a lot to look forward to.<\/p>\n

Astral Chain<\/strong><\/em> is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n
