Not only is David \u201cTheGrefg\u201d Martinez now the owner of the highest individual viewed stream on <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/twitch\/\">Twitch<\/a>, he absolutely dwarfed the old record, which was held by famous\u00a0content creator Ninja.<\/p>\n<p>Over two years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-ninja-breaks-viewership-record-423\/\">Tyler &#8216;Ninja&#8217; Blevins broke the record for concurrent views<\/a> with around 650,000 viewers while playing <em>Fortnite. <\/em>While many games have peaked since then, nothing has come over the top of Ninja&#8217;s magical night, until now.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/twitch-shroud-stream-raid-attempt-blocked\/\">Twitch Blocks Shroud&#8217;s Stream Raid Attempt<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Spanish Twitch streamer TheGrefg was hosting a stream to celebrate his collaboration with <em>Fortnite<\/em>, and the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-icon-series-thegrefg-skin-january-2021\/\">TheGrefg was getting an Icon Series <em>Fortnite<\/em> skin in the game<\/a>. The skin itself seems to have been inspired by <em>Dragon Ball Z<\/em>. Of course, <em>Fortnite<\/em> is no stranger to crossovers with TV shows, comics, movies, superheroes, and more.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of other Icon Series reveals (other streams\/content creators who received in-game skins), some of them were done via Twitter posts, like with Loserfruit, for example. Others were done creatively, like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-lachlan-pickaxe-frenzy-tournament\/\">Lachlan getting an Icon Series skin via an in-game tournament<\/a>. But for TheGrefg, his announcement came with the fact that he would reveal his Icon Series skin inside of his own stream. The result was a stream in which 2.4 million concurrent viewers stopped by to watch, blasting past the previous record.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Twitch\/status\/1348754308033089537\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Twitch was certainly in the news recently for 2020 for odd reasons, including plenty of DMCA bans. Of course, 2021\u00a0started with a massive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/twitch-bans-donald-trump-to-prevent-him-from-inciting-further-violence\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitch ban of President Trump<\/a> himself, so\u00a0surprise suspensions\u00a0don&#8217;t seem to have stopped. But the record-breaking news of\u00a0TheGrefg is a different kind of info dump, perhaps a lighter and more joyous kind that brings an upbeat nature to streaming in general.<\/p>\n<p>What is quite\u00a0perhaps the most remarkable about the new record is that it, again, is\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em> leading the charge. From 2018 to 2021, no game could top what Ninja put forth with <em>Fortnite.<\/em> And now, almost three years later,\u00a0TheGrefg nearly quadrupled the record with the same cartoony and\u00a0loved battle royale. Other games of the same genre, like <em>Call of Duty:\u00a0Warzone<\/em>\u00a0and <em>Apex Legends<\/em> have taken up their arms, but none have gotten close to those numbers. Other games that are perhaps more of the party genre or of a different ilk, like <em>Fall Guys<\/em> or <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/among-us-corpse-husband-five-million-youtube-subs\/\"><em>Among Us<\/em> have catapulted content creators to fame<\/a>, but still, the Twitch records have not fallen.
