The future of gaming was changing as players knew it. And when it came to the handheld market, Nintendo as a developer was at the forefront.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo found success in its various established titles, yet the company needed a personal killer app\u00a0of their own to capitalize. In 1995, the creation of the concept for\u00a0<strong><em>Pokemon<\/em><\/strong> was born. After several months in development, in 1996, the first\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/pokemon\/\">Pokemon<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>games,\u00a0<em>Pokemon Red\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Pokemon Green<\/em>,\u00a0were released in Japan in February 1996, 25 years ago.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"next-single related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-anime-concept-art-ash-ketchum-looks-different\/\">Pokemon Anime Concept Art Reveals Different Look for Ash Ketchum<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the historic franchise, The Pokemon Company released a two-minute video celebrating\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em>&#8216;s success over its quarter-century legacy. The video starts off with gameplay footage of\u00a0<em>Pokemon Red and Blue <\/em>on a Game Boy, catching a Pikachu. The Game Boy is lowered as a lone Pokeball roll along a path that&#8217;s reminiscent of a pinball.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l_ZHajviuAY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;width:1280;height:720;\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the Pokeball rolls along the path, various iconic <em>Pokemon<\/em> including Pikachu, Espeon, and the three Johto starters (Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita) make their appearance in their plush and toy forms. At one point, the Pokeball knocks a stack of Game Boy\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> cartridges like dominos. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/most-expensive-pokemon-cards-auction\/\">Various\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> cards make their appearance<\/a> as the Pokeball interacts with Pikachu.<\/p>\n<p>The Pokeball eventually makes its way into a city-like structure as clips of the classic\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> anime are being shown in the background. Landing on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokeball-new-nintendo-2ds-xl\/\"><em>Pokemon<\/em> exclusive New 2DS XL<\/a> playing a copy of\u00a0<em>Pokemon Black<\/em>, the Pokeball travels through more iconic characters. This coincidentally includes\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> rival N from\u00a0<em>Pokemon Black<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Pokemon White<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>himself.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, the Pokeball featured throughout the video collides with a structure that looks similar to that of a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-gucci-north-face-items-get\/\">Pokestop from<\/a>\u00a0<em>Pokemon Go.\u00a0<\/em>From this point, the Pikachu rides on a Corviknight taxi into one of the stadiums featured in\u00a0<em>Pokemon Sword<\/em>\u00a0<em>and Shield<\/em>, doing battle with a Bulbasaur. A cameo of Pikachu from\u00a0<em>Detective Pikachu<\/em> also makes his appearance.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Pokemon\/status\/1349359476462202887\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It is at this point in the video that the teasers for the upcoming year start to take form. The words &#8220;Katy Perry And Pokemon&#8221; appear in neon lights as Pikachu rides on a skateboard, teasing a collaboration between the pop singer and the company. This is followed by a panned view of Pikachu in neon lights as confetti bursts from the background.<\/p>\n<p>Further information from the official 25th anniversary <em>Pokemon<\/em> website\u00a0sheds more light on the year-long celebration. Katy Perry is one of the many artists to collaborate with\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> in the form of a curated playlist. Starting in March, various retrospective pieces will debut starting from the Galar region. Lastly, various exclusive merch relating to\u00a0<em>Pokemon&#8217;s<\/em> 25th anniversary is currently planned.<\/p>\n<p>The site teases more news over the course of this year. Whether or not the news contains confirmation of the highly requested\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/pokemon-leaker-diamond-pearl-remakes-november-2021\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Pokemon Diamond and Pearl<\/em> remake<\/a> has yet to be seen.
