As 2021 starts off, PlayStation<\/strong> shows which games fans downloaded the most throughout 2020. The PlayStation<\/a> blog lists an eclectic collection of games that were downloaded across multiple platforms and regions.<\/p>\n

Over the course of this generation, Sony has formed an recognizable gaming identity and forged alliances with popular third-parties. Though the PlayStation 5 came out at the tail-end of 2020, it is already the biggest console launch in history<\/a>. Between this new console and the PlayStation 4, games of various genres have reached the top of most downloaded titles last year.<\/p>\n

If strictly looking at PlayStation 5, the top three games between US\/Canada and Europe are the same. It looks like new console owners are playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em>, Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em>, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla<\/em>. This is unsurprising due to the strong community of fans behind these series, but the list does not stop there. Also reaching the top of the charts are highly rated action games like Demon’s Souls<\/em><\/a> and Immortals Fenyx Rising<\/em>. And no list would be complete without titles such as FIFA 21<\/em>, Madden NFL 21<\/em>, and NBA 2K21<\/em>.<\/p>\n

However, when it comes to PlayStation 4 downloads, the list does see some big differences between regions. The US\/Canada region has Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em>, Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em>, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare<\/em> as the top three. In comparison, European players are drawn to FIFA 21<\/em>, FIFA 20<\/em>, and Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em>\u00a0as their top three most downloaded. Despite the controversy behind development<\/a>, The<\/em>\u00a0Last of Us 2<\/em>\u00a0is in the top chart for both regions as well. But other PlayStation exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima<\/em> and Final Fantasy\u00a07 Remake<\/em> only appear on the US\/Canada chart, showing a difference in interest between the regions.<\/p>\n

Seeing the games that most players were downloading and playing is always an interesting hindsight. PlayStation continues to prove that it is a fantastic platform due to the diverse catalogue of high quality experiences. Regardless of which console or region, there are plenty of titles appealing to all sorts of gamers. If looking for the best multiplayer games<\/a>, these top charts show that the Call of Duty<\/em> and FIFA<\/em> series are worth jumping into. Even those who prefer single player games have choices,\u00a0like\u00a0Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em> and\u00a0Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This could be more representative of the marketing behemoth behind the series, rather than its quality. Nevertheless, the gamers of PlayStation<\/strong> have spoken with their wallets, showing where interest lies.
