Baldur’s Gate 3<\/strong><\/em> launched into early access late last year, but the game is far from complete. Rather than release the entire game, Larian Studios instead opted to release it chapter by chapter, and thus far, only the first chapter of\u00a0Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em><\/a> is available to play.<\/p>\n

The first chapter of\u00a0Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em> is quite the adventure, totaling over 20 hours of gameplay, but it’s just the beginning.\u00a0Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em> still has quite a ways to go in early access<\/a>, and thanks to a few hints and unfinished plot lines in the first part of the game, there are quite a few things to expect in forthcoming chapters of the future.<\/p>\n

First, there’s the main mission: getting the mind flayer tadpoles out of the player character’s (and their companions’) eyes in Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em><\/a>.<\/em> While that probably won’t happen in the very next chapter\u2014this is a big game, after all\u2014it seems pretty certain that the next chapter will include a trip to Moonrise Towers. The party is seeking answers there, answers about the tadpoles in their heads, and why the party themselves haven’t become mind flayers yet. Clearly, there are greater powers at work, and the party still lives for a reason; hopefully, that reason becomes clear in the next installment of the game.<\/p>\n

Beyond that, there are the roads to Moonrise Towers: three exist, yet only one is currently available in the game\u2014the path through the Underdark that begins at the ruined temple of Selune. Thus, it’d make sense if the other two roads were made available in the next major update; those would be the Risen Road and the mountain pass. However, there is a curse over the land that the party will eventually run into if they take either overland route, and perhaps in the next update, the exact nature of that curse will also be revealed.<\/p>\n

Throughout the first chapter of the game, Lae’zel (one of the companions)<\/a> was adamant that the best and only way to get rid of the tadpoles was by finding a githyanki creche. After some investigating, that creche is revealed to be set up in the mountains on the way to Moonrise Tower, meaning that players who explore the overland routes to the towers could very well encounter the creche as they go. Lae’zel clearly wants to find them, and then there’s the matter of Shadowheart, who is secretly holding onto a githyanki artifact. Everything is slowly adding up, but what exactly finding the creche will mean remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

While on the Risen Road, the party runs across a burning inn. Inside of it is an ambassador that the party can (and should) rescue, and she lets slip an interesting piece of information. While this section of the game remains quite buggy, and clearly isn’t meant to be a quest just yet, it hints at what could happen in the future. The ambassador reveals that Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard of Baldur’s Gate has been kidnapped, and asks the party to save him. Now, the player’s journal doesn’t update when encountering the ambassador, confirming that this isn’t a completed quest on the developer’s end just yet, but it implies that the party will find themselves in the company of a grand duke at some point down the line in\u00a0Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

There’s a side quest during the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that sees players hunting down a tiefling named Karlach, who supposedly massacred a group of paladins and innocents. However, upon finding Karlach, she offers another (quite believable) version of events: that she’s an escapee from Avernus, one of the Nine Hells, formerly a general for Zariel, though she hated serving the archdevil. The “paladins,” meanwhile, are actually cultists of Zariel, tasked with hunting her down.<\/p>\n

Though it’s impossible to actually force the paladins into admitting that they’re Zariel’s, it does make more sense to help Karlach, as it seems like players are actually meant to encounter her later on in the game. After helping her, she says she’s headed to Baldur’s Gate, and no doubt players will end up there as well. Thus, it seems like Karlach is a character<\/a> who’ll be making a return appearance.<\/p>\n

Finally, there’s the great city of Baldur’s Gate. Considering that it’s the game’s namesake, traveling there during the course of the game is pretty much a done deal. Presumably, the characters’ mind flayer predicament will lead them to the city eventually.\u00a0But what lies in store for the players in Baldur’s Gate?\u00a0That<\/em> much remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

No doubt several of the companions’ backstory quests will come to fruition there; Astarion’s maker lives in Baldur’s Gate, after all, and Shadowheart<\/a> is looking for fellow Sharrans there. Gail needs to find information and magical experts, and where better to find them than the big city? Needless to say, there’s plenty to look forward to in the city of Baldur’s Gate, and it’s only a matter of time before players get to explore it through\u00a0Baldur’s Gate 3.<\/em><\/p>\n

Baldur’s Gate 3<\/strong><\/em> is\u00a0available in early access for PC and Stadia.<\/p>\n
