Wonder Woman 1984<\/strong><\/a> s<\/em>tar Gal Gadot is set to enter the spy genre with Skydance Media’s Heart of Stone<\/em>, a thriller described as a female spin on the James Bond<\/em> and Mission: Impossible<\/em> franchises. Now, Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Heart of Stone <\/em>following a\u00a0competitive auction for the espionage film.<\/p>\n

Skydance’s\u00a0Heart of Stone<\/em> was first announced in early December 2020 after Gadot closed an eight-figure deal <\/a>to star in the project. Directed by Wild Rose<\/em> helmer Tom Harper from a script\u00a0penned\u00a0by\u00a0The Old Guard <\/em>scribe Greg Rucka and Academy Award-nominated writer of Hidden Figures<\/em>\u00a0Allison Schroeder, Heart of Stone <\/em>aspires to mark the beginning of a new franchise with the global scope and action scale of the aforementioned 007<\/em> and Mission: Impossible<\/em> films.<\/p>\n

With the new deal between Netflix and Skydance,\u00a0first reported by Deadline,\u00a0Heart of Stone<\/em> will become the latest Gadot feature film to head to the streamer following Red Notice, <\/em>a comedy thriller co-starring Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds<\/a>. In addition to leading Heart of Stone,<\/em> Gadot will serve on the project as a producer alongside\u00a0Skydance’s\u00a0David Ellison,\u00a0Dana Goldberg,\u00a0and\u00a0Don Granger as well as Jaron Varsano,\u00a0Bonnie Curtis,\u00a0and\u00a0Julie Lynn. Skydance previously collaborated with Netflix as the producers of the streamer’s hit films\u00a06 Underground<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Old Guard. <\/em>The studio is currently in the midst of production on an untitled time-traveling film for Netflix starring Reynolds and directed by Shawn Levy.<\/p>\n

Gal Gadot most recently appeared in Warner Bros. and DC’s Wonder Woman 1984, <\/em>which premiered on December 25 on HBO Max day-and-date with select U.S. theaters following multiple delays throughout 2020. The long-awaited sequel fared well for the WarnerMedia streamer according to the results of a Screen Engine survey, which found a significant number of customers either signed on or retained their subscription to the service specifically to watch Wonder Woman 1984<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on its debut weekend. Unfortunately, the Wonder Woman<\/em>\u00a0sequel has experienced steady declines at the box office, which may be attributed to\u00a0theater closings across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Warner Bros. evidently hasn’t lost\u00a0confidence in the viability of the Wonder Woman<\/em> franchise. The studio confirmed plans for a third Wonder Woman<\/em> film<\/a> shortly after 1984<\/em>‘s debut, with Gadot and director Patty Jenkins returning.<\/p>\n

Netflix’s Heart of Stone<\/em> is only the latest project Gadot has managed to line-up for herself. The\u00a0Israeli actress is also reteaming with Jenkins on a biographical drama centered on\u00a0Egyptian ruler Cleopatra<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Heart of Stone<\/em> is in development at Skydance.<\/p>\n
