As many fans may know, the Pokemon franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary since Pokemon Red and Blue released for the Game Boy in 1996, and many are expecting some major releases this year. New Pokemon Snap is already slated to arrive in April of this year, leaving plenty of room for more Pokemon content later on.

But this begs the question, will players see Pokemon‘s ninth generation arrive this year? Or will other Pokemon-related content come in 2021, with gen 9 saved for a later year? Let’s take a closer look at the history of mainline Pokemon game releases, and pin-point when Pokemon Gen 9 will most likely arrive using some deductive reasoning.

RELATED: Pokemon Gen 9 Should Replicate One Major Sword and Shield Change

By taking a look at the mainline Pokemon game release schedules, it comes easier to predict when exactly Gen 9 will likely release. Here’s a breakdown of every Pokemon mainline entry: Pokemon Red and Green in 1996, Pokemon Gold and Silver in 2000, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire in 2002, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in 2007, Pokemon Black and White in 2011, Pokemon X and Y in 2013, Pokemon Sun and Moon in 2016, and Pokemon Sword and Shield in 2019. Overall, every Pokemon generation has had anywhere from two to five years between entries, but the average length between generations has been three years, with the past three generations all having three years between their respective releases.

Along with there being three years in-between releases, another pattern that fans have noticed is that The Pokemon Company tends to release remakes of older games before releases of new generations. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen released before generation four, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver released before generation five, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire before generation seven, and then Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Eevee before generation eight.

RELATED: How Pokemon Gen 9 is Handled After Sword and Shield May Define the Franchise’s Future

This pattern leads to the belief that the most likely Pokemon release that fans should expect in 2021 is not Gen 9, but probably a remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. A generation four remake has been long-rumored and requested by many fans, and the generation is actually celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, which makes it all the more likely. Many fans might prefer a new generation to the remakes, but it just doesn’t seem like quite the right time yet.

The earliest that fans should expect Gen 9 is 2022, but the games may end up taking even longer than that. Some Pokemon titles have taken as long as five years to develop, and The Pokemon Company is aware that Gen 8 was disappointing to many fans, despite being wildly successful. Gen 8 was supposed to be a massive overhaul for the franchise, but took little steps to be the sequel that players wanted to see. Perhaps Gen 9 will take longer than most entries to develop in order to meet player expectations, but it’s too early to predict whether this will be the case. Players can only hope that the game will live up to (and exceed) the series’ level of polish and high quality that gamers have come to expect.

Despite whether or not the game will arrive anytime soon, fans certainly have plenty of Pokemon content to look forward to in the coming months; New Pokemon Snap is only a few months away, Pokemon GO continues to receive regular updates, and fans are speculating some sort of special Pokemon collection that will celebrate the series like last year’s Super Mario 3D All-Stars. No matter what happens, 2021 is likely to have a few exciting surprises in store for longtime Pokemon fans.

MORE: New Pokémon Snap: 10 Things To Get Excited For (That The Game Needs To Have)

立刻註冊及報名電腦補習課程吧!

Find A Teacher Form:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vREBnX5n262umf4wU5U2pyTwvk9O-JrAgblA-wH9GFQ/viewform?edit_requested=true#responses

Email:

public1989two@gmail.com

www.itsec.hk
www.itsec.vip
www.itseceu.uk

With Pokemon Sword and Shield wrapping up their Season Passes, many fans are now wondering when they should expect the arrival of Gen 9.

With Pokemon Sword and Shield wrapping up their Season Passes, many fans are now wondering when they should expect the arrival of Gen 9.

607
