More people can now get some extra bang for their buck out of watching YouTube videos on their gaming consoles. It\u2019s been discovered that YouTube<\/a> has rolled out support for HDR (High-Dynamic Range) on not just the Xbox Series X and Series S, but the last-gen Xbox One X and S as well.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time an Xbox video app<\/a> has added support for the higher screen quality that HDR provides, as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have supported it on the Xbox One for a while now. YouTube, however, has been a long time coming, with Microsoft first promising support back in 2017, according to Flat Panels HD, which first spotted this week\u2019s rollout on Xbox consoles.<\/p>\n

So long as they have HDR-compatible monitors<\/a>, users can now experience YouTube\u2019s selection of HDR videos as they were meant to be seen, with brighter visuals and stronger colors. These visuals can be experienced at 4K and 60fps on the Xbox Series X, and at 1440p and 60fps on the Series S. Additionally, Engadget notes that users can check the \u201cstats for nerds\u201d panel to make sure the HDR is outputting correctly, but it should be noted that plenty of TVs either display a HDR prompt or automatically switch to a HDR mode when content starts playing.<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s any downside, it\u2019s that the range of HDR videos on YouTube is still fairly small, though this includes test videos designed to highlight HDR\u2019s capabilities. Most YouTubers have yet to start creating content in High Dynamic Range<\/a>, but with any luck, the growing presence of it on YouTube and its different apps will encourage an increase in the number of high-quality videos for Xbox users to enjoy.<\/p>\n
