The recent remakes of the second and third games in the following years have continued this winning streak.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/horror-games-decade-scariest\/\">10 Scariest Horror Games Of The Decade<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>2021 is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the franchise, and the eighth mainline entry,\u00a0<em>Resident Evil: Village<\/em> is set to release alongside this celebration, further continuing Ethan Winters&#8217; story from the seventh game. Since its announcement in June, details have been parse. Fortunately, Capcom recently revealed a whole slew of information during a showcase on January 21st, giving fans plenty to ponder in the months leading up to release.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Releasing May 7th Of 2021<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Resident-Evil-Village-Release-Date-Reveal.jpeg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>In recent years the franchise has wasted little time in bringing a game to fans after revealing it to the public. During the reveal event, Capcom announced a May 7th release date for\u00a0<em>Resident Evil: Village<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-capcom-games-metacritic\/\">10 Best Capcom Games Of All Time (According To Metacritic)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is a little longer of a wait than prior entries in the series, but it still less than a year since its debut trailer.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/forgotten-action-games-need-remakes\/\"><em>Resident Evil 2\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>3\u00a0<\/em>remakes<\/a> made people wait only about six months, but eleven also is not bad for a major franchise.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Discovering Why Ethan Is In The Village<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Resident-Evil-8-Village-PS5-upgrades.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The plot is still shrouded in mystery, and most prefer it this way, but more details have come out regarding Ethan&#8217;s reasons for heading to the spooky location. Apparently, he arrives to find his daughter. Why the infant is there and what Chris Redfield has to do with it is still up in the air, but at least we understand Ethan&#8217;s basic mission. The poor protagonist will probably go through the wringer once again in\u00a0<em>Resident Evil: Village<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>PS5-Exclusive Demo Is A Non-Combat Graphics Showcase<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Resident-Evil-Maiden.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Demos are not as popular as they were during the prior generations, but Capcom still lets players enjoy a small chunk of a game before release.\u00a0<em>Resident Evil 7<\/em> included a unique demo featuring content not meant for the final release, and\u00a0<em>Resident Evil: Village<\/em> is doing something similar with\u00a0<em>Maiden<\/em>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ps4-exclusive-titles-best-metacritic-scores\/\">PlayStation 5 exclusive<\/a> playable teaser. Players do not control Ethan, and combat is not the focus, but it should still give one an idea of the game&#8217;s atmosphere.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Ethan Defends Himself By Blocking<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Residente-evil-village-guarding-copy.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>is no stranger to gameplay reboots. The most recent big shakeup was the switch to a first-person perspective for\u00a0<em>Resident Evil 7<\/em>.\u00a0<em>Resident Evil: Village\u00a0<\/em>looks to take the first-person combat a step further with some gameplay advancements. There looks to be more advanced defensive maneuvers. In the showcase, Ethan blocks an attack from a ghoulish enemy and then kicks them back. While guarding was in\u00a0<em>Resident Evil 7<\/em>, the counter-attack is new.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Other Platforms Receive Full Demo Closer To Launch<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/resident-evil-village-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>While PlayStation 5 is receiving a special demo, other platforms will not be left in the dust. Closer to release, all other consoles are set to receive a demo of\u00a0<em>Resident Evil: Village<\/em>. This playable portion will be taken from the final product, so fans already intent on buying the game probably do not need to play it.\u00a0<em>Maiden<\/em>, on the other hand, has content not in the final product.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>A Return Of The Merchant<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/The-duke-resident-evil-village.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/skyrim-best-merchants-ranked\/\">Everybody remembers the merchant<\/a> from\u00a0<em>Resident Evil 4<\/em>. While the exact character is not coming back, a shop is returning for the upcoming game. This time, the character is called the Duke. He seems a little more jovial than\u00a0<i>Resident Evil 4&#8217;s\u00a0<\/i>merchant, and also has a more imposing presence. The village aesthetic reminds one of\u00a0<em>Resident Evil 4<\/em>, and the merchant also lends to this comparison. What exactly the Duke will be selling is still unknown, however.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>The Return Of Crafting<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Resident-evil-village-crafting.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Resident Evil: Village seems to be bringing back a lot of elements from earlier games in the franchise. The inventory is reminiscent of\u00a0Resident Evil 4, and a crafting system is also returning.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/resident-evil-4-first-playthrough-mistakes\/\">10 Mistakes Everyone Makes On Their First Playthrough Of Resident Evil 4<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The latter was a part of even <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-horror-games-90s-ahead-time\/\">the early trilogy on the original PlayStation<\/a>. It remains to be seen how deep this system will go, however. Will players be able to craft special types of ammo or weapon parts, or will it be simplified?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Releasing On Previous Generation Platforms<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Resident-Evil-8-The-Village.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Upon the initial announcement, the game was slated only for\u00a0PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, producer Peter Fabiano states that versions for the PS4 and Xbox One will also hit marketplaces on May 7th. He gave no word on what concessions these versions will make in order to run. Considering <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ps4-games-will-benefit-ps5-ssd-load-times\/\">the current-gen versions will utilize the SSD<\/a> to reduce loading, the versions for older consoles will probably have more load times.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Division 2 Crossover<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Resident-evil-village-division-hunk.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>As a part of the\u00a0<em>Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>twenty-fifth anniversary celebration, Ubisoft announced a crossover event with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/division-2-tips-taking-control-points\/\"><em>The Division 2<\/em>.<\/a> From February 2nd to the 15th, players will be able to earn aesthetic goodies from the classic survival-horror franchise. Crossover events are nothing new in gaming, but seeing a collaboration between two publishers in a multiplayer game is only a more a recent phenomenon. Of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fighting-games-need-reboot-darkstalkers-marvel-vs-capcom\/\">Capcom is also known for titles like\u00a0<em>Marvel Vs. Capcom<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Capcom Vs. SNK<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>A New Multiplayer Game Announced &#8211; RE:Verse<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Re-verse.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Also announced during the showcase was a player vs player multiplayer game called\u00a0<em>RE:Verse<\/em>. The trailer reveals a vastly different aesthetic than what fans are used to in\u00a0<em>Resident Evil<\/em>, feeling like a fun cartoonish competitive game.
