Development on the upcoming\u00a0System Shock<\/strong><\/em> remake by Nightdive Studios seems to be moving along well, as the developer recently gave a new update on the game’s Kickstarter page. This latest announcement also comes with news about a new\u00a0System Shock<\/em> demo<\/a> and the upcoming\u00a0System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition<\/em> that Nightdive Studios is also working on.<\/p>\n

The most recent post by Nightdive is the first update on the game’s Kickstarter since November 2020, which announced the completion of the Big Box Collector’s Edition. Since then,\u00a0System Shock<\/em><\/a> fans have been waiting patiently for more news, with this latest post possibly indicating the release might be coming in the near future.<\/p>\n

According to the update, pre-orders for\u00a0System Shock<\/em> will be going up sometime at the end of February, though the exact date for securing an early purchase\u00a0wasn’t specified. The game will be available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store, so PC players can go through their preferred purchasing method when it comes to picking it up. In addition to getting access to the original’s remake, pre-ordering will also give players access to the upcoming\u00a0System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition<\/em><\/a>, which will also be free for any $30 or higher Kickstarter backers.<\/p>\n

Alongside the pre-order, Nightdive will be giving players an even deeper look into\u00a0the\u00a0System Shock<\/em> remake’s gameplay<\/a> with the final demo that will be released before launch. Exactly what will be in this final demo is still up in the air, and this specific build of the game likely won’t be entirely reflective of\u00a0what players can expect to see in the\u00a0full launch. So, as interesting as a new chance to get a feel for the game is, the developer likely has larger hopes for the overall experience\u00a0recreating the 1994 classic than the small taste available in the demo.<\/p>\n

It isn’t entirely clear yet when the full release of the game will be coming, especially considering the Steam page still has the release date set for an earlier projected launch in 2020 as of this writing. Similarly, Nightdive wasn’t clear on when\u00a0System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition<\/em> will release<\/a>, though the developer does intend to deliver on both titles around the same time.
