The boy genius with a 314 IQ made his first appearance in 1990&#8217;s <em>Marooned on Mars<\/em> and appeared in several more games throughout the decade, solidifying his spot among <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ms-dos-games-online-archive-library\/\">other legendary MS-DOS games<\/a>\u00a0with <em>Keen 4<\/em> and <em>5<\/em>, known collectively as <em>Goodbye Galaxy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>When it came time for the pale hero to blow out the candles on his birthday cake, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/commander-keen\/\"><em>Commander Keen<\/em><\/a> creator Tom Hall took to Twitter to celebrate 30 years of <em>Keen<\/em>. Not only was <em>Marooned on Mars<\/em> the first <em>Keen<\/em> game, it was also the first game made by id Software. The partnerships formed at the company\u00a0while working on the <em>Commander Keen<\/em> games would eventually lead to the creation of a little game called <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-eternal-switch-review\/\"><em>Doom<\/em>, a title that is spawning sequels<\/a> to this day.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/doom-4-footage\/\">Canceled Doom 4 Footage Emerges Online<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Aside from being rock-solid platformers with a funny story and charming 16-bit graphics, the <em>Commander Keen<\/em>\u00a0series is known for launching one of gaming&#8217;s best inside jokes; the dopefish.\u00a0Since making its debut in <em>Commander Keen 4: Secret of the Oracle<\/em>, the dopefish has been secretly included in a plethora of games. Most recently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/commander-keen-easter-egg-doom-eternal\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dopefish popped up in id Software&#8217;s very own <em>Doom Eternal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ThatTomHall\/status\/1338526232342745088\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s been\u00a0a long time since the world&#8217;s seen a new <em>Commander Keen<\/em> game, creator Tom Hall has been trying to make one happen for years now.
