Since the studio first opened its doors in 1995,\u00a0Bioware\u00a0<\/strong>has developed\u00a0an array of\u00a0successful\u00a0projects that have gone on to become classics. Its work on the\u00a0Mass Effect\u00a0<\/em>trilogy<\/a> cemented\u00a0it as one of the biggest names in the sci-fi genre, while\u00a0Dragon Age\u00a0<\/em>saw it conquer fantasy, and\u00a0Knights of the Old Republic\u00a0<\/em>resulted in one the most widely-acclaimed\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>video game adaptations ever made.<\/p>\n

It also managed to launch a cult-gem in\u00a0Jade Empire<\/a>:\u00a0<\/em>an RPG that used Chinese mythology\u00a0to mold its core setting and allowed players to wield several martial art styles and abilities. Thanks to the book Stories and Secrets from 25 Years of Game Development<\/em>, fans know that Bioware at one point sought to make a spiritual sequel to the\u00a0game back in 2005 called Revolver<\/em>, and now one of the game’s artists has revealed exactly what that project would’ve looked like.<\/p>\n

Bioware<\/a> art director\u00a0Matt Rhodes posted\u00a0several slices of concept art\u00a0from the title on Instagram, claiming:\u00a0“Beginning its life as a sequel to Jade Empire, Revolver evolved and changed course many times throughout its development.” The images\u00a0showcase several aspects of the game, including its protagonists, antagonists, and setting. It seems it would’ve taken place in a cyberpunk future, with a\u00a0number of sword-wielding protagonists\u00a0fighting against\u00a0gun-toting soldiers. It also appears as though\u00a0Revolver<\/em>\u00a0would’ve had a series of creepy monsters players had to contend with, including\u00a0suited men who could shapeshift into terrifying creatures.<\/p>\n

According to Eurogamer, the title would’ve been a parkour-focused open-world adventure that blended Bioware’s signature RPG systems with a non-linear narrative. It was in production until 2008, at which point it was canceled as\u00a0the studio\u00a0continued work on\u00a0Dragon Age: Origins\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Mass Effect 2<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n
