Dream is the personification of all dreams and stories and lord of the realm of The Dreaming.\u00a0 At the beginning of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-sandman\/\"><em>The Sandman<\/em><\/a>\u00a0he escapes after being held in captivity by humans for decades and returns to his realm to figure out how to go forward in his immortal life. Dream is one of the Endless, a family of personifications of natural forces. There has been no casting announced for any other of the Endless, but Neil Gaiman says there are more casting reveals to come.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fandome-sandman-netflix-neil-gaiman\/\">Neil Gaiman Reveals What Influenced The Creation of Sandman<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Vivienne Acheampong, recently seen in\u00a0<em>The Witches<\/em>, has been cast as Lucienne, trusted librarian of the Dreaming, Dream&#8217;s realm.\u00a0<em>Game of Thrones&#8217;<\/em> Gwendoline Christie has been cast as Lucifer, the ruler of Hell. Lucifer is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe and is a supporting character in\u00a0<em>The Sandman<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/charles-dance-game-of-thrones-season-8-petition-remake\/\">Fellow\u00a0<em>Game of Thrones<\/em> star Charles Dance<\/a> will be playing Roderick Burgess a blackmailer, charlatan, and magician who succeeds in capturing Dream.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NXOnNetflix\/status\/1354806628491567110\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Actor Boyd Holbrook has been cast as The Corinthian, a nightmare once created by Dream who has rows of teeth for eyes. Rounding out the casting announcement are Asim Chaudry as Abel and Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain, described as &#8220;the first victim&#8221; and &#8220;the first predator&#8221; respectively. Cain and Abel reside in the realm of Dreaming. Both actors are comedians, suggesting the dark comic nature of their existence and relationship will be maintained.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first major television adaptation of\u00a0<em>The Sandman<\/em>. In 2020, an audiobook of\u00a0<em>The Sandman<\/em> was released on Audible to great acclaim. It did not have the same cast as the television series, starring\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/marvel-xmen-movies-best-worst-ranked-rotten-tomatoes\/\">X-Men&#8217;s James McAvoy<\/a> as Dream, Riz Ahmed as The Corinthian, and Michael Sheen as Lucifer. The success of the audiobook, which Neil Gaiman was heavily involved with just as he is the television show, inspired more excitement for the Netflix series.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Gaiman is no stranger to adaptations of his works. His collaboration with author Sir Terry Pratchett,\u00a0<em>Good Omens<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/neil-gaiman-more-good-omens\/\">was adapted into a mini-series<\/a> on Amazon Prime in 2019 and was extremely well received. His novel\u00a0<em>American Gods<\/em> is <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/american-gods-season-3-release-date\/\">currently running as a TV series<\/a> on the Starz network,\u00a0 and the comic series\u00a0<em>Lucifer<\/em> has run on Fox and Netflix for five seasons.
