It turns out that upcoming recoil changes for Destiny 2: Beyond Light<\/strong><\/em> are not popular with fans. Bungie describes in a new blog post how there are going to be updates to recoil in preparation of crossplay for Destiny 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

One thing that is typically mentioned when discussing Bungie’s shooter are the gun mechanics. As a first-person shooter, this characteristic is key to the gameplay experience in Destiny 2<\/em>. Now that crossplay is coming later this year, these mechanics are seeing a change. Crossplay refers to allowing multiplayer across multiple platforms, such as PC and console. The difference in platform input, mouse and keyboard versus controller, will likely be a huge debate for crossplay in Destiny 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bungie mentions that to accommodate this feature, gun recoil mechanics are changing. Specifically, the recoil stat on PC is going to see an increase of 40 percent. Due to the precision mouse and keyboard provides while aiming, most gamers on this platform could ignore the recoil stat. Therefore, these fans have what is deemed as an unfair advantage against Guardians using controllers. When in the context of crossplay, this could result in major issues for Bungie between platforms.<\/p>\n

For those wondering, it looks like most weapon types are going to be part of these updates. Auto, Scout, and Pulse rifles along with Machine and Submachine guns are part of this list. In addition, fans using Hand Cannons are not safe either. Bungie mentions that the recoil on PC will switch to be closer to the controller experience. The upside is that Pulse rifles, Submachine, and Machine guns are getting a much needed buff<\/a> to have less recoil across both platforms.<\/p>\n

It\u00a0is not surprising that the update news is making waves in the Destiny 2<\/em> community. Despite seeming minor, an edit to how a gun feels can demand that players change and adapt. For those with a significant amount of seasonal grinding<\/a> in the game, this could be a problem. Plus, a blanket change like this may not be the most subtle way Bungie could help crossplay. PC players will likely see it as an unfair penalty purely for using a different type of input, all for the sake of game balance.<\/p>\n

However, it is no secret that mouse and keyboard is a more precise means of control. First person shooters require great speed and accuracy to perform well, something mouse aiming has a leg up on in comparison to controller joysticks. With many PC gamers already using controller<\/a>, it is unlikely Guardians will stop playing. Though there will be an adjustment time, the change may be forgotten about after some time in the game. While it may be a controversial solution, it is good that Bungie is willing to work for balance in all Destiny 2<\/em> platforms.<\/p>\n
