With the release of both the Xbox Series X\/S and the PS5, there were a number of launch titles making the rounds towards the end of 2020. While the PlayStation 5 got a fairly robust selection of titles, Microsoft has just one larger launch game in The Medium<\/em><\/strong>. The Bloober Team’s newest project has had enough financial<\/a> success that some are wondering just how long it will be a console exclusive. Currently only available on the Xbox Series X\/S and PC, there is at least some talk that it could eventually land on the pS5 as well.<\/p>\n

Since the game’s launch, Bloober has voiced its appreciation for the Xbox Series X\/S<\/a> as the only console platform it currently exists. The title’s producer,\u00a0Jacek Zieba said he’s impressed by even the lower-end Series S’s ability to run The Medium<\/em> at a rather high quality. Despite the development team apparently being plenty happy only being on Microsoft’s platform, there’s always the chance it would like to see the game eventually find a wider audience.<\/p>\n

There are several ways to read into recent comments from\u00a0Zieba and others. On the one hand, they’ve made it clear that The Medium<\/em> can only run on next-gen<\/a> console hardware. That seems to rule out any kind of backward port to the PS4 and Xbox One. However, some in the gaming community have taken the very specific “next-gen” comments as not entirely ruling out the PlayStation 5.<\/p>\n

In an interview just ahead of the game’s launch, both Zieba and\u00a0lead designer Wojciech Piejko played things close to the vest when they were asked outright about a port. Both said they were focusing on the Xbox Series X\/S and PC for The Medium<\/em><\/a>. However, neither did they entirely rule out the PS5. Instead, they said that gamers would have to “wait and see.”<\/p>\n

It has been pointed out that when Bloober first launched Blair Witch<\/em>, it was an Xbox One console exclusive. Several months later, it found its way to the PS4. Some believe\u00a0The Medium<\/em><\/a>\u00a0could follow that path.<\/p>\n

Having launched less than a week ago, the fact that Bloober has already made back its development costs could bode well for an eventual PS5 port. Had the game struggled on the Xbox Series X\/S and the PC it seems less likely the development team would consider an entirely separate version of the game. The added benefit of generally favorable reviews and a composite score of 76 on Metacritic lend some credence to talk about The Medium<\/em> eventually coming to the PS5.<\/p>\n
