Persona 5<\/em><\/a> might just have been the most popular JRPG we’ve seen yet in the west, and for good reason. The game takes all the mechanics of the previous entries and makes them a more cohesive whole, allowing for slick gameplay in a complete package.<\/p>\n

The biggest elements in the game are the Personas<\/a>, demons that the player can fight and make pacts with. With the release of\u00a0Royal<\/em><\/a>, more Personas and more content, in general, were added. Today, we’ll be looking at some of the Personas who show up in the evil Okumura’s palace, The Space Station Of Greed.<\/p>\n

12 <\/span>Belphegor<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Belphegor belongs to the Tower Arcana of the Tarot, and the ones you’ll face in this palace are pretty beefy at level 37. That being said, he’s weak to fire, which plenty of your crew should be able to handle at this point. His art in the game is actually super similar to his entry in\u00a0Dictionnaire Infernal,\u00a0<\/em>an old grimoire in which the demon was featured.<\/p>\n

11 <\/span>Black Ooze<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

While Oozes and Slimes<\/a> aren’t exactly the most creative of JRPG<\/a> enemies, especially in the context of\u00a0Persona<\/em>, you’ll be running into quite a few of them while running Okumura’s palace. They’re pretty much immune to most ailments, but luckily for you, they’re also pretty susceptible to attacks of either electric, psychic, or bless skills.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Lilim<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Lilims are basically like a mixture between pixies and succubi, their cute appearances being sure not to betray their darker and demonic side.<\/p>\n

In Jewish folklore, Lilith was the first wife of Adam in the Garden Of Eden, and we can assume that in\u00a0Persona<\/em>, these are her offspring. They shouldn’t be too much trouble, but if they are, break out some wind and bless attacks.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Mithras<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Mithras was actually the object of worship for people during Greco-Roman times. While people assume that the entire pantheon from Mount Olympus was worshipped during this era, instead, small cults devoted to one or a few figures would crop up in different geographic locations. In\u00a0Persona 5 Royal<\/em>, he’s pretty tough thanks to his ability which strengthens technical attacks by 25%, although he’s weak to psychic attacks.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Arahabaki<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Arahabaki is claimed to be a deity from even before the time of Shinto’s birth in Japan. It also predates the introduction of Buddhism to Japan as a result. Arahabaki himself was a God of travelers, although, in a document that’s been proven to be falsified, it’s claimed that an emperor made the worship of him illegal. In\u00a0P5 Royal<\/em>, he’s weak to nuke and wind damage.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Girimehkala<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Giremehkala is likely a syncretic deity from Sri Lankan mythology, who could be a corruption of Ganesh, the elephant-headed remover of obstacles in Hindu myth.<\/p>\n

Giremehkala is the mount on which Mara, the ruler of the realm of samsara, (the illusion world of unenlightened beings) rides. He’s able to put out a ridiculous amount of curse spells, but luckily, he’s weak to bless moves.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Mothman<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Mothman isn’t so much a demon or something from ancient lore, instead, he’s a cryptid, which we don’t really see much of in the\u00a0Persona<\/em> or\u00a0Shin Megami Tensei<\/em><\/a> series. First spotted in the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the Mothman is exactly what he sounds like, albeit with glowing red eyes. In the game, he’s weak to guns, making him pretty easy to deal with.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Decarabia<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Decarabia might look like a hell-world version of Patrick Star from\u00a0Spongebob<\/em><\/a>, but it’s still a pretty imposing enemy. Decarabia first appears in The Lesser Key Of Solomon, specifically in a section known as the Ars Goetia, a book of demons from which\u00a0Persona<\/em> takes more than a few enemies. Decarabia is weak to physical attack, meaning it’s probably better to hack n’ slash here.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Thunderbird<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Thunderbird could very well be considered another cryptid, or at least cryptid-adjacent. The bird is related to legends of the Roc, and also forms the basis for Zapdos in the\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon<\/em><\/a> franchise.<\/p>\n

It’s mostly found in Native American legends. In the game, the Thunderbird makes use of many electric moves, but is particularly weak to psychic and curse moves, while absorbing electric attacks.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Kaiwan<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Kaiwan, also known as The Wishless Star, is a pretty terrifying and uncanny-looking opponent. It’s not altogether scary so much as it is just uncomfortable to look at, since it’s a human face imposed on a star. The creature comes from ancient Assyrian myth, where it was worshipped and associated with the planet Saturn. In\u00a0Persona 5 Royal<\/em>, it’s weak to nuclear but will block psychic and gun attacks.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Kumbhanda<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Kumbhandas are evil spirits in Buddhism, being essentially lesser deities under the command of the Great King Virudhaka, the guardian of the South, and one of the directional kings. Kumbhandas are misshapen, with their name coming from the word for egg. It’s rumored that greedy officers would be reborn as Kumbhandas. They’ll block fire completely but can’t stand psychic attacks.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Melchizedek<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There’s a lot of conjecture as to what or who Melchizedek actually is, however it’s clear that the name comes from Genesis. The real question, is does it refer to a high priest of an ancient religion, or does it refer to a deity? It’s also been used to refer to Shem, the son of Noah, or to the archangel Michael later on. He’s a real pain to deal with since his instant death moves are more likely to work, but he’s weak to wind attacks.<\/p>\n
