Out of all the anime projects Netflix has announced<\/a> recently, one of the more recognizable names in the list was a spin-off of\u00a0Pacific Rim<\/em><\/strong>. The show, set in a post-apocalyptic Australia, is set to premiere as a Netflix<\/strong><\/a> exclusive and the streaming service has just released a new trailer, along with official word of when the show will finally be available.<\/p>\n

The original\u00a0Pacific\u00a0<\/em>Rim<\/em> was a 2013 film directed by Guillermo Del Toro in which larger than life robots fought against huge monsters called Kaiju<\/a>. Within the story of the film, an interdimensional vortex opens up at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and the Kaiju come bursting out, destroying cities and laying waste to everything in their path.<\/p>\n

In response, humanity builds Jaegers: giant robots piloted by humans in order to even the playing field with the fearsome beasts. Piloting these mechs is incredibly difficult and stressful, however, so each one is typically piloted by several humans who are mentally linked using a process called “Drifting.”<\/p>\n
