The PlayStation <\/a>brand would never have been as successful as it is today had it not been for the value it derives from its exclusive franchises. Some have gone on to become multiplatform series, but the bulk of their success has still been on their original brand.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are certain other franchises that have always been on the PS platform seeing so much commercial success that they\u2019ve outsold multiplatform games as well. With the PS5 in its early days, it\u2019s worth checking out the franchises that have pushed the PS platform to the topmost position in the gaming industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Spyro: 20 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The <\/span>Spyro<\/span><\/i><\/a> series started out on the PS console, featuring a trilogy before it went multiplatform. These were the franchise\u2019s best days as well, with most of the 20 million copies sold<\/a> coming around this time. The number is even more impressive considering the smaller userbase for consoles at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

This platformer was also very critically acclaimed during its original trilogy, which is most likely why customers decided to purchase the games in such numbers. Decades later, the overall tally still stands at the<\/span>\u00a0top level.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Singstar: 20 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

While never the biggest critical darling, the <\/span>Singstar<\/span><\/i> series certainly had a tight grip on the casual fanbase back in the day. The fact that it sold as many as 20 million copies<\/a> is a testament to this success. With a karaoke-style of gameplay featured, there was little that could go wrong here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sadly, the rise of casual games on the Nintendo platform and the inflow of this genre, in general, led to <\/span>Singstar<\/span><\/i> being sidelined. Still, the final tally of sales this high is enough for the series to have its name in the history books as a success for the PS brand.<\/span><\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Spider-Man: 21 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

What\u2019s incredible about the success of Insomniac\u2019s <\/span>Spider-Man<\/span><\/i><\/a> games isn\u2019t the number of plot holes<\/a> it ignores, but the fact that basically all of its sales have come from one title alone. <\/span>Spider-Man<\/span><\/i> PS4 sold a whopping 20 million<\/a> copies and continues years later.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/span><\/i><\/a> couldn\u2019t replicate the success of the original, although it has managed to snag an additional million or so units to boost the franchise\u2019s sales numbers. With more sequels expected, this series is definitely going to climb up in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 <\/span>The Last Of Us: 24 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Impressively, <\/span>The Last of Us<\/span><\/i><\/a> sold more as a remaster on the PS4 rather than <\/span>on the PS3. The second game\u2019s penchant for hard-hitting weapons<\/a> and a deep storyline also proved to be a successful formula, as it piled on the number of units for the series.<\/p>\n

Despite being just two games in, <\/span>The Last of Us<\/span><\/i> has sold 24 million copies worldwide<\/a>. It might take a long time for a new entry to give this figure a massive boost, but the second game does continue to see further sales so this total is sure to see a raise.<\/span><\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Ratchet & Clank: 26 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Considering this series has been going on for two decades by this point, it shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise that the <\/span>Ratchet & Clank<\/span><\/i> games show a 26 million units figure<\/a> for itself. Although the bulk of these numbers relate to a few precious titles, the franchise does have legs.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a number of critical duds, the franchise went dormant for some time before returning with the acclaimed reimagining. <\/span>Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart<\/span><\/i> is set to build on the previous title\u2019s goodwill, so it\u2019ll be interesting where the numbers figure land then.<\/span><\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Uncharted: 44.02 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There have been some rumblings about the lack of morals Nathan Drake displayed<\/a> during the series, but that hasn\u2019t stopped fans from purchasing new games and checking out what the character is up to in each entry. A cool 44.02 million<\/a> has even been touted by Sony themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a superb achievement for a game that was unknown when <\/span>Uncharted: Drake\u2019s Fortune<\/span><\/i><\/a> launched as a PS3 title, with the franchise seeing growth all the way until the last game which seems to be the final one indefinitely. <\/span><\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Tekken: 50 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

To be fair, the overall figure is boosted by recent multiplatform titles in <\/span>Tekken 6 <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Tekken 7<\/span><\/i><\/a>, but the <\/span>Tekken<\/span><\/i> series was a PS exclusive for three generations and made its mark on the console. Its inclusion of the best fighters<\/a> during this era also helped.<\/span><\/p>\n

As many as six games were exclusive to the PS brand and saw massive sales success. The recent games have benefitted from multi-platform releases to see a 50 million sales figure<\/a> achievement for this fighting series.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Crash Bandicoot: 50 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The series seemed to have peaked in its critically acclaimed days<\/a> with Naughty Dog, with Activision releasing a variety of titles that never saw success. Still, the nostalgia proved to be strong as the <\/a><\/span>N. Sane Trilogy<\/span><\/a> sold well<\/a> and the series got a boost to the 50 million mark in overall sales.<\/span><\/p>\n

As many as 40 million<\/a> of these came under the Naughty Dog days, proving the star power it commanded was when it was a PS brand exclusive. It remains to be seen just how far the figure can go in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 <\/span>God Of War: 51 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

It\u2019s guaranteed that the next game will be a huge hit since fans are anxious to have their questions answered<\/a> from the previous entry. Regardless, the <\/span>God of War<\/span><\/i><\/a> is already a juggernaut with an incredible 51 million units<\/a> sold as every entry has been a commercial success.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to the reinvention of the series that arrived with <\/span>God of War<\/span><\/i> PS4, the franchise is here to stay and it\u2019s more than likely that many more sequels will be underway. For the time being, the PS brand can be proud in its support of a series that has seen half a century of sales.<\/span><\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Gran Turismo: 80 Million<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

It\u2019s a shame the ridiculously long playthroughs<\/a> of recent games have turned critics and fans off a bit, as the <\/span>Gran Turismo<\/span><\/i><\/a> series was Sony\u2019s trump card a few years ago. Even today, every new entry is certain to sell just enough for the series to see significant bumps in sales.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, nobody can disregard a franchise that has sold upwards of 80 million units worldwide<\/a>. With every PS console seeing at least one <\/span>Gran Turismo<\/span><\/i> game, look for the PS5 to see a huge boost once the latest entry in this simulation series arrives.<\/span><\/p>\n
